Tractor Services: All-Around, All-Purpose

April 07, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 172

The antecedent of the all-purpose tractor most farmers use today was the steam-powered wheel-type tractor that made its debut in France and in the UK back in 1830. It also inspired the invention and design of the military tank built by the French and British in World War 1. The modern tractors nowadays are a far cry from its predecessors. They are now powered by internal-combustion engines that run on diesel or gasoline and fall into two types: continuous track and wheeled. Since then, the tractor, be it a farm or industrial tractor, has transcended its original design and purpose. It is now an all-around, all-purpose machine that can do a lot of work in the farm or anywhere else. It is the jack-of-all-trades of the machine world.

Here are some of the basic and common tractor services being used.

Land clearing/Weed cutting

If a piece of land is populated by tall weeds (6+ inches tall), do not attempt to cut them with a regular lawn mower. If you do, you might run the risk of breaking your back and your bank, because using a lawn mower to cut tall, unyielding grass can ruin the belt mechanism and blade spindle bearings of the mower, causing you to spend cash on expensive repairs.

The right machine to do this job is a tractor with a Bush Hog attachment. It connects with a 3-point hitch and is pulled by the tractor. This is one of most popular tractor services that many farmers use in their farms.

A Bush Hog is a type of rotary cutter or rotary mower. The difference between this and a regular lawn mower lies in the blade. A lawn mower has sharp blades, while a Bush Hog has dull wedge-like blades that are powered by hydraulic technology. These blades spin parallel to the ground at the speed of 150 mph.

Re-grading existing stone/gravel pathways

If a stone/gravel pathway, parking lot or farm lane is ravaged by potholes and the surface is uneven, you do not need heavy and expensive equipment like a bulldozer to fix the problem. A tractor can easily do this job. All you have to do is attach a snow blade or light duty dozer blade to the front of the tractor. You can fill the potholes and level the surface of any stone/gravel pathway, parking lot, or farm lane by back-dragging or lowering the blade to the ground and then pulling it along the ground while in reverse.

Snow removal

If you live in a place where snow stock piles on your driveway and on the sidewalk and roadways every winter, barring you from going anywhere, then you need to attach a snow plow in front of your tractor. This simple and convenient device is easy to attach and remove and will save you from the daunting task of shoveling snow out of your way.

Tilling garden plots

Before you can plant anything on your garden plots, first, you need to plow and till it. This process will cultivate the soil and prep it until it becomes conducive for planting. And this job can only be done successfully by a tractor, since tilling is one of the most basic and common of all the tractor services.
