5 Tips for New Article Writers

February 22, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 165

1. Necessary Evil Articles, blog posts, even forum posting are all a necessary evils in the internet today to be able to get your product or website seen. Anyone who creates a site is not going to get any business without the all-important content, which comes in the form of articles written for their website, articles to be posted to article submission sites to get back links or a short blog post or forum post. This is good news for someone who is starting with writing, just as there are new writers every day, there will also be new websites needing articles every day.

2. Just Start WritingIt can be difficult when you first start writing, knowing what to write about can be a problem even for veteran writers. What topic to choose, what keywords do you need, these are not easy decisions to make for someone new to the business. The most important task for a first-time writer is just to start writing. Write about what anything that comes to mind, don't worry about whether or not you have a specific subject in mind or even grammar and spelling. Just write and you will find the ideas start showing on paper that can turn into great material.

3. Worrying about PerfectionAs mentioned in step 2, don't worry at first about your grammar. A lot of writers fail before they even start due to worrying about perfection. Your first few articles may not be perfect, but you will learn and develop your style just so long as you keep writing. Write first, proof read later. Perfection is an admirable desire but seldom reasonable or attainable.

4. Length of Articles Writing for the web is not the same as writing for say a magazine. The article length for the web is shorter. This can be for several reasons; the most important being if you do not capture the interest of the person reading quickly they will just click to the next one. You need to get the information across as fast as possible to keep their interest.

5. Finally, Grammar and Spelling One you have your first draft of your article or blog post it is time to check your work for a fine tuned article ready to submit. First, step away from your work for a few minutes, go have that cup of coffee or take a quick walk. Stepping away will allow you to come back with a fresher outlook. Now read over your work, do you see any obvious mistakes? How do you feel about your spelling and grammar? Read it out loud to yourself and make sure that it flows smoothly. Once you have made any corrections from this exercise run it through a grammar and spell check program. Microsoft Word is what a lot of writers use to double check their work.

You are now ready to submit your article, just as with writing reports in school as time goes on you will become more comfortable with writing content for the web. Remember to keep writing and soon it will flow effortlessly.
