Is Jesus Christ a Babyface or a Heel?

November 02, 2011 | Comments: 0 | Views: 135

If you're reading this article, I'm 99.9% certain that you know by now that professional wrestling sports entertainment is scripted, hence the word "entertainment." Sure, the physical strain on the body is real. The performers feel lots of pain regardless of how safely moves and holds are performed.

By now you probably know more or less how the wrestling industry works and the categories that wrestlers are put in; a wrestler is either a babyface or a heel. If you don't understand the meaning of these 2 terms, worry not and continue reading below.

Babyface: the good guy; fan favorite character who is portrayed as a hero.Heel: the bad guy; the wrestler who the crowds are intended to boo.Tweener: neither babyface nor heel; displays characteristics of both.

Since tweeners are rare (99% of wrestlers are either babyface or heel), this article will focus only on babyfaces and heels.

If you watch wrestling, you'll notice that guys such as John Cena, Randy Orton, and AJ Styles, always gets massive cheers. Why? It's because they are babyfaces, the "good guys." On the other hand, we see that people such as Bully Ray, Christian, Vickie Guerrero, and the Miz always get massive "Boos." Why? It's because they are heels, the "bad guys."

Wrestling psychology is such that fans generally cheer babyfaces and boo the heels. We have been trained and molded to think and react in this manner. We cheer the hero and boo the villain.

Are we following the same protocol when it comes to the Lord Jesus Christ?

Who watches a romance movie and expects the movie to end unhappily ever after!? Nobody! We want to see happy endings, not sad ones. We want the hero to overcome the villain. We want to see the villain's plans foiled.

Jesus Christ is the biggest exception to this decades-old rule about babyfaces and heels.

Jesus Christ is the greatest good guy that ever walked this earth. He died on a cross to save humanity from the clutches of Satan. Thanks to Jesus, we have access to heaven. He has offered the gift of eternal life and has given us his Holy Spirit so that we'd never be alone.

Revelation 21:4 (NIV): He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

What a beautiful promise we have!

Unfortunately, while Jesus did the most heroic thing anyone has ever done (and ever will do) when he died on the cross for our sins, we treat him as if he were a villain, a heel. He has saved us from hell, yet we always boo him. He came to give us life, but we prefer to side with the devil and choose death.

When it comes to Jesus we have it all twisted. Believe it or not, we cheer for Satan as if he were a babyface. We may not do so directly with our words, but our actions certainly do. When we choose to not want to accept the message of the gospel and salvation, we're cheering the devil. When we choose to satisfy the pleasures of the flesh instead of trying to live in harmony with the Holy Spirit, we're cheering the devil.

In wrestling terms, Jesus is the ultimate babyface. Will you cheer him by obeying his word, or will you boo him and side with the ultimate heel, the devil?

John 3:16-17 (KJV): 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
