Many people often have questions about worker's comp and whether their injury may be covered by worker's compensation benefits. Worker's compensation, which is frequently known as Worker's Comp, is the name for a set of laws intended to provide protection to workers who are injured on the job. The primary goal behind this system of laws is to ensure that anyone who is injured on the job receives not only medical care, but also wages that are lost as a result of the injury. In most states, the law provides for a schedule of payments that relates to classifications of permanent bodily impairments or the loss of a physical sense or body part. In terms of wage-loss benefits, about up to two-thirds of the average weekly wage of an injured employee is typically covered through wage-loss benefits. Hospital benefits and medical care benefits are also provided for under all state laws as well. Such coverage also usually includes expenses such as nursing care, equipment and transportation.

This is particularly true in regards to defending against the possibility of premature benefit termination. Workers should also be wary of returning to work under the guise of a specially created position being made available for them that will accommodate their injury. In many cases, employers may use this ruse to have the employee return to work; however, within a short period of time the position will be eliminated. The worker will then be laid-off and they will find they are no longer able to qualify for worker's comp benefits.
