There are carving machines that can get the job done more easily but you wouldn't dare call yourself a master woodworker if you can't hone your whittling skills. At the start, you may end up with uneven-shaped pegs but practice will make those pegs better-looking. Remember to sharpen the blade so it cuts thoroughly through the grain. The novice woodworker will also get to practice assembling, cutting, drilling, and measuring with this project.
