Stop Comparing Yourself to Models and Actors

April 17, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 118

Actors and models are the standard for looking perfect. You see them in a movie, on the television or in a magazine and they appear to be flawless. And then you look in the mirror. No wonder you get depressed and stop trying to lose weight or get in shape. You lose a few pounds or exercise for a few weeks and the results do not meet your expectations. You try some more and despite an improved physique, you still aren't even close to your perception of optimal. Eventually, you get frustrated and give up.

It is easy to lose hope when you realize you will never look as good as they do on television or in the magazines. I have news for you, the actors and models you are looking at are rarely as they appear. Not without help.

When you are staring at a magazine or television you are hardly ever seeing a person who is not medically modified. In actor land you get liposuction to remove unwanted fat and Botox to remove wrinkles. When the wrinkles get too much to be tamed by Botox, you get a facelift. Are you having a baby and a big event a few weeks later? No problem, schedule the birth and a simultaneous tummy tuck. If gravity or genetics haven't endowed you with the right sized breasts, get implants. The same goes for your butt, stomach, and chin.

Even if they don't use the medical route, they have a personal trainer to stay in shape, a nutritionist to help with food choices and a massage therapist to remove stress. The advantages don't end there. If they aren't perfect, the makeup artist can remove wrinkles and deduct years. And when all else fails, digital enhancement removes any remaining blemishes.

Stop comparing yourself to pictures in a magazine. They have genetics you didn't get and as genetics make way to aging they have doctors and other specialists who aid them in their quest to look perfect. You want to compare yourself to someone, go to a beach or community pool or take a walk through a mall or store.

Or better, take a picture of yourself and compare the current you with one before you lost weight and got into shape. Rejoice in the progress you see as your physique improves when you eat better and exercise. Focus on the areas of improvement and stop being critical of perceived flaws or excess fat. You may never look like a super model or the next Bond but you can look like a better version of yourself. And more importantly, you can feel and be healthier.
