Elements of a Working Website Brief

It will be futile to keep on updating your business or organization's website if you don't know how to make it work to your advantage. To maximize the website's capability to put your business in a strategic position, you must learn how to make an effective website brief. Listed below are the key elements that determine the affectivity of a website brief:

1. The Target Audience

The most important question that you need to ask yourself when making a website brief is: "Who is the target audience". These are the ones who you expect to patronize your products and services because of their inherent needs. There are cases too when you will have to target a group of audiences with diverse interests and needs.

When you know your target audience, it will then be easier for you to conceptualize the approach of your website brief in the way that is most appealing to them. You will be able to "influence" them to look through the contents of your website and make them interested of your products and services.

2. The Target Response

Once you have identified your target audience, the next pressing question would be: "What do you want them to do?"

Do you want them to support a cause, or buy a product or simply follow your updates? You have to clear as to what your targeted response is. Some of the responses that you might want from the traffic that you are getting might be:

a. to sign up to something b. to participate in a forum c. to join a cause d. to comment on your blog posts e. to buy your products f. to refer your site to other people g. to leave their contact information

There can be a multitude of responses that you can get from the different visitors of your website. All of this traffic will be wasted if you will not design your website brief so as to "drive" them into wanting the same thing -- of course, the thing that will benefit you and your company more.

3. Method of Promotion

Given that there is a heavy competition out there, you must be able to come up with your own method of promotion. Think of a UPS or a "Unique Positioning Statement". This serves as the catch phrase which you intend your visitors to remember. This type of promotion has been used since time immemorial but it is still very effective even in the online world.

4. Identify Your Competitors

It is easier to survive in the competition if you know what your competitors are doing. You can copy their strategy, improve it or devise a strategy that is completely different from theirs'. Then you can compare which method is more effective and act upon the problems if there are any.
