Moving to VoIP Can Save on Your Business Phone Costs

February 07, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 91

In today's economic environment, finding ways to do business more effectively without adding significant extra cost is of interest to most business owners.

Any company regardless of size needs a reliable and affordable phone system to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and partners.

Do you want to save money on your telecommunication costs without compromising quality of your communication with customers? Are you wondering what VoIP is and why there is so much buzz about it?Do you want a phone system with more features, flexibility, easier maintenance?

VoIP (or Voice over Internet Protocol) is a way of making phone calls using the internet instead of using traditional phone cable lines.

Even small business can take advantage of the benefits of VoIP.

All that is needed is an internet connection and a VoIP phone system that can convert the calls from a voice signal into data packets, ready for transport via the internet. Before it gets to its destination, the data is converted back into a voice signal. So the person you are calling, or calling you, does not need any special hardware.

Using VoIP for business has many advantages depending on your particular set up. These include:

Lower monthly line rentalCheaper call ratesAdditional phone lines or moving premises is easier

VoIP also comes with many advanced features at little or no extra cost. Large, corporate telecommunications companies add fees to your monthly bill for every extra feature such as call waiting or voice-mail. You may even need a new phone system to get time-saving features such as caller identification. But not with VoIP.

In addition to the cost savings, using VoIP for your business can create a more positive customer experience because you can use features such as call forwarding and locate me. Call forwarding means you will never miss a sales call. Locate me is an excellent solution if you spend time between your home and city office, because your call will find you whichever office you are in.

Moving to VoIP means you can save on your monthly bill even if you have to purchase new equipment. This will depend on your existing system capabilities and your needs. You will need a VoIP device to transport calls and a VoIP phone, but your VoIP provider will help you work out if you can upgrade your existing system and what hardware you will need.

Larger businesses that make a lot of calls, send a lot of email, and make internal calls between departments may find a VoIP PBX is more suitable. Existing (and expensive) PBX systems can be retained with the help of some additional equipment.

Hosted VoIP is perfect for small businesses because you get the features of a large and expensive phone system without installing a PBX. All you need are the phones, a switch (to move the data around) and an internet router.

Call quality will be affected by the quality of your equipment so try not to choose the cheapest (and potentially unreliable) hardware.

Is VoIP right for your business? If you have a 'traditional' phone system and a broadband connection but want to save money on your telephone bills, moving to VoIP may be the right decision for your business.

Find a good local VoIP provider who will also offer on going support to resolve any issues that might come up.
