How VoIP Services Influence Business

June 10, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 147

You know what's really cool? A lot of International business is being conducted over Skype. For example, many immigration lawyers, software developers, freelance designers and project managers have begun to prominently post their Skype IDs on their blogs, on their homepages, and all over their advertisements.

These professionals have realized that Skype provides them with the opportunity to connect with a bunch of new clients in other countries who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford to get in contact with them at $2 per minute. International phone calls are still pretty expensive, while Skype chats are free, and international Skype phone calls are very cheap, if not free as well. VoIP service like Skype also provides a very disruptive option to work around the expensive infrastructures of traditional telephony companies.

Skype was not developed to provide lawyers with the ability to connect with their clients. Not specifically at least. It has a number of limitations that make it less than an ideal option for many legal applications. But without this free or low cost communication option much of this business would not take place.

New Telephony Technologies are Naturally Disruptive

Cell phones sprung out of telephony technology developed for ocean liners and military applications. These days cell phones have enjoyed mass public adoption around the entire world.

The original producers of cell phones couldn't have dreamed that their SMS services would be used by hundreds of millions of teenagers texting each other billions of times a month. The original hosted VoIP telephony pioneers didn't anticipate their advances would enable increasingly decentralized workforces and business structures that are completely and quickly turning classical "office" into a "cloud".

I doubt that anyone predicted that wireless broadband technology would enable the world's poorest, least technologically developed countries to suddenly join the global conversation via VoIP by allowing them to bypass the development of costly landline infrastructures.

Every time a new telephony technology finds its way out into the world it creates massive unexpected disruptions to the way we do business. And modern VoIP systems are no exception.

The Unconventional Uses of VoIP within Modern Business

There are TONS of conventional benefits VoIP offers modern businesses, including:

• VoIP adoption typically results in immediate, undeniable cost savings for your business. VoIP services cost less per month than traditional telephony services, VoIP services allow you to main a single (data) network instead of multiple telephony networks, and VoIP services reduce costs when reconfiguring the physical layout of your offices.

• By adopting VoIP you massively increase the flexibility of your business' telephony systems. VoIP allows you to handle (cheap) virtual phone numbers, to bring your telephony system with you wherever you or your employees travel, and VoIP also converges multiple forms of communication, allowing such previously unheard of feats as making phone calls from your laptop and receiving voice mail recordings as perfect audio files within your email's inbox.

Yet the real power of VoIP services lies outside of these obvious, conventional applications. The most powerful uses of VoIP are going to spring up through improvisation and through unpredictable uses of the technology, such as cell phones allowing sub-Saharan African cities without running water to connect to the global economy, or by providing Immigration attorneys the ability to demolish the economic barriers surrounding previously untouchable clients.

How will YOU use VoIP to disrupt your business' status quo in highly positive, and highly profitable, ways?
