The following are Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAA-HEP) accredited medical assistant training programs in Chicago.

Kaplan University - Chicago

Chicago, IL

This training program confers the degree Associate of Applied Science after completing the required 92 credits. Core requirements include Communication and Mathematics, while major courses include Introduction to Health Science, Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology I & II, Pharmacology, Diseases of the Human Body, Medical Office Management, Medical Coding and Insurance, Professionalism in Health Care, Clinical Competencies I, II & III, and the Medical Externship. Tuition fee is $34,132, exclusive of other fees.

National Latino Education Institute

This institute offers the Bilingual Certified Medical Assistant Program, the only accredited bilingual program in Chicago. The course is comprised of 63 credit-hours that are completed over a span of 10 months. Subjects include Phlebotomy, Medical Terminology and Clinical Services, among others. Job placement is allegedly 22% higher than the national average of 70%.

Northwestern College - Chicago

The program offers an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Medical Assisting after completion of 101 credit hours. Clinical courses on top of usual general education courses and one elective include Communication Skills for Healthcare Workers, Emergency Preparedness, Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology I, II & III, Medical Records & Office Procedures, Pathophysiology I & II, Pharmacology, Medical Law, Ethics, and Human Relations in Health Care, Seminar, Clinical Assisting Skills, Diagnostic Procedures, Specialized Procedures, Clinical Laboratory Procedures I & II, Pharmacology Laboratory, and CMA Preparation. Courses to enhance administrative skills include Essentials of Accounting, Ambulatory Reimbursement I, Keyboarding Skills/Formatting, Records Management General Office Procedures, and Contemporary Health Issues. A medical externship of at least 160 hours is also required. This program has an on-time graduation rate of 37% (6 out of 16 graduates), and no current calculable placement rate. Tuition and fees total $49,625.

Westwood College - Chicago

The training program in Chicago confers a diploma in Medical Assisting after 69.5 credit hours over a period of 12 months. Some of the course topics include Anatomy and Physiology I & II, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Minor Surgical Procedures, Phlebotomy, Medical Insurance and Administrative Procedures, Medical Law and Ethics, Medical Terminology, Patient Relations, and Principles of Patient Care, Computer Applications, Career Management, Medical Assisting Review and a 165-hour Medical Externship. It has a 73% on-time graduation rate, an 81% placement rate, and tuition and fees total $24,440.Associate degrees are available at the Colorado and Georgia campuses.
