How To Sell Art Online Using Your Own Website

February 13, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 150

If you are an independent artist working to sell art online then you have come to the right place to learn more about doing this using a personal website. You might be questioning your decision to sell art this way but online art sales are booming and there is no reason not to try to get a piece of the pie for yourself. Going at it alone is also not as big of an issue as it used to be; things like social media, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and the nature of the internet in general make it easier than ever to reach a wider audience and sell art to a wide variety of potential customers.

There are several popular ways to display your art online: a blog, an image gallery, and a traditional web page. A blog is an excellent way to talk about your art, your creative process in general, and also to promote any art online that you have for sale. An image gallery is a very useful tool because it allows you to share many different pictures of your art pieces and gives potential buyers an opportunity to see your style displayed across different subjects and mediums if you have a variety of these. A traditional website is often a static page, meaning it does not change or update itself like a blog would. This is becoming less popular because this option requires knowledge of web coding languages such as HTML and CSS that many people do not know.

Regardless of what sort of venue you choose to display your art online, how you go about telling people about it is going to have a lot to do with the number of visitors your site gets. The higher the number of visitors the greater chance you have of impressing a potential buyer and the more opportunities you will have to sell art. Making sure the descriptions of your work are as accurate as possible and include any important words or phrases that people might use to search for art online is one of the best things you can do to get your site noticed by the major search engines like Google. You can also actively promote your art online using social media sites like FaceBook and services like Twitter and Google Plus; it is also not a bad idea to promote your main website in print (think newspapers and local classifieds magazines) as well as this is still a popular resource for people who sell art as well as those who buy art for their collections.
