How Can Video Conferencing Be Beneficial for Your Business?

Once, the idea of video calling was considered technology of the distant future, but now has become something common place in both the business sector and in the personal lives of many people. More and more companies are adopting video calling as a way of communicating and staying connected to clients, employees and customers. The advantages that come with a company adopting video conferencing do not simply benefit the overall company but can also benefit the employees and, in many cases, the environment.

The main advantage that comes with using video conferencing is the increase in productivity. The ease of communication through video conferencing amongst employees or with clients means that decisions can be made much faster. Many video calling programs have options that will allow users to discuss and edit documents together without having to be in the same room or without having to wait for the other party to reply by phone or email. The ease of sharing ideas and materials creates a flow of productivity in the workplace that can only benefit a business. Employees who have to work from home or those away on business can also be kept in the loop and up to date with day-to-day.

The inbuilt features of video conferencing can also be an advantage over more traditional methods - it allows for the users to see facial expressions and body language of the other parties, something that a phone call or an email does not allow. This factor can also improve the way interviews are carried out - people that are unable to attend the interview can still be a part of the process and evaluate the candidate through video rather than in person. Many video conferencing systems also have options to record or store conferences which can be useful for businesses to use as training tools.

The environmental impact of a business is something that has become ever more important. Many businesses are keen to show their environmental credentials or to show that they are doing something to lower their carbon footprint. Implementing video calling within a company will have a drastic effect on a company's CO2 emissions as it will cut down the time spent travelling to and from meetings. This is especially important in the United States where having to take domestic flights for conferences or meetings is fairly common. The Carbon Disclosure Project has put out a report that looked into the environmental benefits of video conferencing - it found that on average an individual business could reduce its CO2 emissions by over 2,200 metric tons over five years - the equivalent of the annual emissions from over 400 passenger vehicles.

The financial consequences of video conferencing can also be positive for a company, especially in today's financial climate. Money can be saved on travel - cutting out train fares, aeroplane tickets and taxis can add up. Money that would be spent on hotels for longer trips can also be cut down dramatically. Businesses do not only save money but can save time that would be spent waiting or travelling.

Video conferencing can also prove to be beneficial to employees as well as the company in general. Having to spend less time travelling to and from meetings will only improve employee morale. Stress levels caused by delayed trains or traffic jams can also be reduced. Using video calls also allows new remote employees to get to know their co-workers much faster which reduces anxiety and improves productivity.

Video conferencing can benefit a business in many ways and though meeting in person will always be the best way to communicate; video conferencing is fast becoming a close second.
