Video Phones - As Seen On TV - In The Future!

April 08, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 137

Television shows have always given a glimpse into the possibilities of future technology. One of the most common fictional elements seen in every type of show, from Star Trek to The Jetsons, were video phones. Instead of a voice call, a push of a button summoned forth the real-time image of an enraged Mr. Spacely or a serious alien ambassador.

Although we still haven't encountered alien life, the video phones often seen on these classic shows are now a reality. Video conferencing systems are nothing new. Since the 1990s, technology existed for real-time video communication. However, these systems were unreliable and usually complicated to configure. This held it back from ever replacing the easy-to-use, traditional voice phone.

The Future Is Here

The video phones we've all seen in the future are here now. Using one is a great way to stay in touch with family while traveling for business or working out of the country. Face-to-face communication conveys much more than an audio-only conversation. Video conferencing systems have finally been simplified to the point that calls are easily initiated as simply as a standard phone call.

How It All Works

These systems utilize the Internet to provide streaming video and audio communication between callers. Some systems allow for numerous callers to connect at the same time. By utilizing existing infrastructure, video phones provide a whole new level of functionality without any special cables, phone lines, or other equipment.

In 2001, 97 percent of households had a traditional landline in addition to cell phones. Today, only 74 percent have a landline and only 62 percent consider a landline a necessity. What has caused this change? The Internet.

Thanks to advances in Internet technology and proliferation of high-speed networks, visual chat systems connect just like a normal phone. Simply dial the number as you would normally and the system will connect both callers. Less tech-savvy users won't be stuck attempting to figure out how to create an online account or log into the system. These advances make video phones obvious alternatives to traditional phone systems.

Get Started Today

They are more affordable than ever. Most systems cost just a little more than a state-of-the-art cell phone or a full-featured traditional telephone. Advanced models provide tons of functionality, benefits and can be integrated into professional office phone systems. Get your family set up with video phones today and you'll feel like you're living in the future.
