Van Parts - Which Are the Best?

March 22, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 160

Well, the What Van? Awards 2012 results are out and many top vans have been revealed. Overall the van of the year was named as the Renault Kangoo ZE -very impressive proof that electric is the way to go and a cost effective option for any business. What makes this van stand out is the price- less than £17000 through a dealer and it doesn't offer any less space than it's rivals. An electric van wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, taking a little getting used to, and equally it couldn't be viable for certain businesses. However it can be a serious option for those covering fewer mileage per day particularly those in London for example.

The Kangoo comes in two body lengths, two or five seat versions, and has a 44kW motor which is approximately the equivalent of a 60bhp engine. This van is great for nipping in and out of traffic, but not so good at high speeds as the battery is not capable to withstand large distances, ranging, on average, 106 miles.

One factor to bear in mind if you are considering this van is that Renault do not offer the battery as part of the vehicle purchase price, instead offering leases, with many mileage package options available (twenty in total). The cheapest of these is £60 a month which covers 6000 miles a year for either three, four or five years. The reason for the leasing, according to Renault, is claimed to be to protect users from concerns over the technology and promises a charging capacity of at least 75% or a replacement given. The breakdown cover will also include running out of power.

So why choose the Kangoo ZE? Well, aside from the low purchase price and the similarities to the current Kangoo inside the cabin, there is, in fact, an element of relaxation involved in driving one! You won't have a diesel engine with it's loud sound emissions to deal with, instead a calming silence. This van gives your business the option of moving with the times, adapting to modern day life and embracing technology, providing it suits your needs of course.

The award for small van went to the Vauxhall Corsa Van. The huge benefit of this model is it's low emissions and fuel consumption- a super low 95g/km. The light van award goes to the Fiat Doblo Cargo with it's sophisticated bi-link independent rear-suspension system making fuel consumption and payload consumption much improved. Loading and unloading is made easy with slim wheel boxes and it's a very pleasant drive at an affordable price.

This years award in the medium van category went to the good old reliable Ford Transit, the new Euro5 van. Despite it's higher price tag, it comes with a much improved fuel economy, six- speed transmission and makes for a quieter ride. The Iveco Daily wins the large van award with it's improved build quality, good handling and smooth engine and gear changes.

When choosing a pick up, there's no better than the VW Amarok according to What Van? The van gives a great performance and handling both on and off road, with an eight-speed automatic version due to launch later this year. If it's a 4x4 van that you're after, top pick is the VW Caddy Maxi 4Motion. This vehicle copes effortlessly with rough terrains, steep slopes and icy weather.

The award for best van conversion went to Citroen Ready to Run while best green van goes to Vauxhall Ecoflex - a green ecoflex version is offered by Vauxhall for every model in it's line up.

There are many other options for each of the stated categories- vans that are highly commended. The ultimate decision if you're considering a purchase is what suits your needs and budget, despite the recommendations.
