The Vacant Property

February 23, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 109

It is becoming commonplace for us today to own both a permanent residence as well as a vacation property. This could be a trailer, a cottage, a condo, or some other type of vacation dwelling. This is an ideal situation, however, one that presents certain possibilities and problems....the possibility of vandalism and theft at the unoccupied residence. The issue that arises is how to successfully monitor the cottage or home that is currently sitting unoccupied.

There are several conditions that need to be monitored in order to prevent damage, theft and other issues, such as:

TemperaturePowerWater leaksMotion Sensing

The ideal monitoring device will use a telephone service for communication if an issue arises with any of these types of conditions. Preferably, a land line telephone service is installed and can be utilized. Optionally there are devices that would allow a cell phone service to telephone the home or cottage owner with any type of alarm condition.

Other options to consider are the types of monitoring devices that can be connected to such an alarm system.

Temperature: There is always the possibility that the furnace may malfunction, or perhaps a window or door has been entered and left open, initiating a drop in the temperature of the home or cottage.

Power: A power outage in the region of the vacant property could result in numerous issues, i.e.stoppage of a sump pump, or a furnace.

Water Leaks: A water leak from any source, if left unattended, would result in thousands of dollars of damage and destruction. This water leak could arise from a water heater, toilet, overflowing sump pit, or numerous other applications.

Motion Sensing: Any home or cottage sitting unoccupied is a target for thieves and vandals. Break-and-enters occur everywhere, every day.

In today's marketplace, there are several different types of monitoring devices to choose from...devices that are easily installed and programmed by the homeowner. Instead of paying hundreds of dollars per year to an alarm company, the homeowner or cottage owner has a monitoring system at his he can control and also check on from anywhere in the world.

If you own a vacation property, don't become a victim of theft, vandalism or damage. Install a device that will give you the peace of mind that you want....assurance that your unoccupied building is safe and secure when you are far away. Best of all, enjoy your vacation property, knowing that your home is being securely monitored.
