May 21, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 104

Mullion can be found in the Lizard Peninsula situated in South Cornwall. The Lizard Peninsula is the warmest place in mainland Britain, and has many SSSI sites (Sites of Special Scientific Interest). The warming effects of the Gulf Stream allow many sub-tropical vegetation to grow along the cliffs and many rare flowers as well as Primroses and Foxgloves can be found in hedgerows and clifftops. There is no other place in Britain like the Lizard Peninsula, anytime of the year it is a beautiful place to visit. We have written 5 reasons why we believe you should choose your Mullion Accommodation holiday.

1. Busy and Bustling Village

Mullion is the largest settlement on the Lizard. It is a very busy little inland village, which has shops, inns, cafes and restaurants, craft shops and art galleries.

2. Local Fresh Seafood and Speciality Food

Mullion has many beautiful restaurants that offer all types of food for your pleasure. The location of the village on the sea and river provides many local seafood specials. There are also options for vegetarians and some of the local pubs and restaurants provide live music or other entertainment. Fishing is one of the largest industries for Mullion and many companies offer fishing excursions, there are a number of boats available for hire in the busy harbour area. Young children will be kept entertained by watching the fishing boats go in and out of the harbor and unload their fresh catches.

3. Church of St Mellanus

In the centre of the village, the 15th century church of St Mellanus is renowned for its richly carved oak bench-ends depicting biblical scenes, including that of Jonah and the Whale.

4. Beautiful Beaches

The surrounding areas of Mullion contain some of the most beautiful beaches in Britain. Visiting these beaches is one of the most relaxing things to do, set amongst the jagged cliffs and rocky shoreline. Many of the beaches that surround Mullion have bathrooms and parking available, and they all have stunning views.

5. Mullion Cove

Mullion Cove is a short distance from the village of Mullion. It has a pretty working harbour, protected from the winter gales that rage across Mount's Bay by two stout sea walls. The harbour was completed in 1895 and financed by Lord Robartes of Lanhydrock as recompense to the fishermen for several disastrous pilchard seasons. You can still see the old pilchard cellar and net store. Mullion Harbour is now owned by the National Trust.
