Planning a Safe and Enjoyable Senior Class Trip for Your Students

February 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 110

High school graduation is an exciting time for your students but just as exciting are the events that lead up to graduation day. Activities such as the senior prom, homecoming, and the senior class trip will all be memorable moments for your students, and you want to play a key role in making those memories great ones. The senior class trip requires the most planning. So it is important to begin early in the school year to ensure all the necessary steps will be taken in time.

Of course the first step to take is to sit down with your students and determine where everybody wants to go for their senior class trip. This will require insight from other teachers and administration as well as the parents of the students who will be attending. After deciding on a location, there are a few things you will have to do to prepare your students for the senior class trip.

• Determine if there are any medical or documentation requirements for your trip.

Depending on where you are going and what you will all be doing, you may need certain documents or it may be necessary for your students to be medically cleared for certain activities. Canada is a popular destination for U.S. tourists traveling in groups, but you and your students would be required to have a special license that acts as a type of passport. Other popular destinations may have similar requirements. So this is an issue that definitely must be addressed.

Similarly it is important to determine if any of the students have health conditions that would prevent from participating in any activities. You should speak to the parents to determine if medical advice may be necessary for their child before going on the trip.

• Determine costs and availability of lodging, transportation, and activities.

A senior class trip will obviously cost a considerable amount of money, much of which will likely be raised through fundraising. So it is important to determine what everything will cost. In addition, you will have to determine availability of lodging, transportation, and activities at the time you plan to take your trip. The difficulty here lies in trying to reserve something as the money for the trip may not all have been raised at the time you are making inquiries.

Fortunately, many individuals will likely be sympathetic considering it is a senior class trip you are planning. If nothing else, you will at least want to try to get an idea of what is likely to be available at a later date.

• Meet with parents, students, and administration on a conference call.

Surely there will be even more decisions to be made and a number of individuals involved in those decisions. So it would be beneficial to hold a conference call with all of them. Conference calling programs make it easy to have a large meeting at any time and from anywhere. And the good news is this is one thing students will not have to raise money for because you can find free downloadable conferencing programs online.

You can easily send a notice home with your students informing parents of the date and time of the conference call. Use this time to discuss any issues or questions anyone may have.

The senior class trip is a great experience for students and it should be as memorable as possible but safe too. Getting everything in order and giving parents and administrators a chance to speak through conference calling allows every issue to be addressed so you and your students can have the best time possible.
