Gate Castors

October 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 152

Castors are used on a wide variety of items ranging from household furniture and office furniture to industrial items. They ensure that these items can be moved more easily than if they were to be dragged around and there are many types that are available in order to make a particular job easier or safer. In the case of gate castors, they are typically chosen because they will take the weight of the gate while it is being moved from one position to another and they will usually include a spring so that they can be moved across any terrain.

The castor is a relatively humble accessory but one that has become essential in the production of many items. Home furniture and office chairs, for example, would be far from convenient if they did not feature the appropriate castor configuration on their bases. They would need to be lifted and moved but with castors it is possible for one person to move a load that would otherwise take two or more.

Some gates, especially those used in industrial settings can be very heavy. They need to be secure and safe and it should be possible to open and close them easily and conveniently. With gate castors, it is a lot easier to swing the gate open or close it fully without having to lift what could prove to be a considerable weight.

Gate castors are specially designed for this purpose. They are spring mounted so that, as you open or close the gate, the wheel will happily glide across the surface of the floor even if it is on an uneven surface like a car park or road. The wheel will rise and dip according to the surface on which it is rolling making it easy and convenient to use.

The wheel itself will usually be made of rubber because this won’t bend or break, which metal wheels might under these conditions. This also offers further suspension while being steady and secure so that you can safely move the gate to any position that you require. The gate can then be locked shut or blocked open.
