Top 5 Time Management Strategies for Stay at Home Mums and Dads

February 23, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 95

As a stay at home Mum or Dad, when your lying in bed at night you are probably wondering where that day went. You never seem to have a moment to yourself, there is always something to do or someone that wants your attention. However by learning a few Time Management Strategies you can change all that.

Group Similar Tasks Together - For example take some time at the weekend to do the cooking for the week. Make things like cottage pies, stews, a lasagne - things that can be easily frozen. This way you can get dinner out of the freezer the night before and not have to worry about preparing it the next day. Not only will this save you time, but you will also know that you are serving your family a healthy, nutritious, balanced meal. This means that you will not have to resort to that frozen burger and chips. Buy in Bulk - Try to have things like nappies, toilet rolls and washing powder always in stock. This way you will not run out at a vital and inconvenient time and have to spend precious moments rushing to the shops. Eliminate Time Wasters - Sit down and work out all the things in your day that cause you to waste time. For example watching TV, waiting outside the school for the kids, queuing in the shops. Try to think of ways you could eliminate them or at least make them more productive. For example could you go to the shops earlier to avoid the busy periods?. While watching TV could you do the ironing?. This way you are increasing your productivity and getting more done. Organise Your Day - Think of a typical day and work out how all the tasks you have to do could be done more effectively. For example mornings are often a hectic time for families. Could you make the kids lunches the night before? Could you get the breakfast things out the night before? Both of these would save you precious minutes in the morning. You could rope the kids in too, they could get their school bags ready before they go to bed and put them by the front door ready. This would then stop you running around in the morning trying to find their homework or get their gym kit ready. Set Limits - Don't commit to anything you cannot reasonably finish or fit in to your already tight schedule. Learn to say No. For example do not offer to help with reading at school, if you already have too much on your plate.

Although most of these Time Management Strategies are small, they will help you to save you a few precious moments. This way when something unexpected comes up, like a child being ill at school, you will be able to cope better. You may even start to find time in your day to do something you enjoy, that is just for You.
