March 21, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 134

World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus had her share of disappointments, which also forced her to think of quitting her favourite sport once. But, this defiant contender kept putting in her 100% on court and gradually emerged as a true champion.

Victoria Azarenka looked absolutely ecstatic after her Aussie Open victory earlier this year. During the post match presentation, Azarenka explained about her state of mind and asserted that she is young and very excited after getting that success - well that was just the beginning as Azarenka has been looking unstoppable at the moment. Obviously, it was a great feeling for someone, who was thinking to quit tennis at a certain stage of her career.

Let's analyze some apparent aspects of her play, form and off-court developments, which contributed in making her a defiant warrior on court who has the potential to beat the big guns in business - on any given day. It all started a year ago, when she fell to Daniela Hantuchova in the opening round of the Qatar Open. It certainly came as a big shocker for Azarenka. In fact, it took a few weeks for her to get over that loss. It also allowed her to do some sort of introspection and allowed her to scrutinize some important aspects of her game.

Azarenka asserted after her Aussie Open win about the development, "It was just not fun for me to do, because I'm the type of player that plays with a lot of passion, a lot of desire. Every time I was stepping on the court, it was like a misery to me, so I just told my mom; I don't want to play anymore because it's not fun. She's like, 'You know what? I think maybe you're tired, you're burned out. Just come home and see what happens." Azarenka further added "Last year by this time I was a little bit of a mess. I couldn't control any of my emotions, and I didn't really enjoy any part playing tennis. "But when I came back after Doha to Indian Wells I had to change, my mentality on court, the way I approached the match, the way I approached the tough moment."

After that break, Azarenka came forth as a totally different player. She has not lost a match so far in the new season and currently she has been enjoying a stunning twenty two matches winning streak. Azarenka started the new season by winning her ninth WTA title in Sydney and then went on to claim the Aussie Open title. In February, she won WTA title in Doha, followed it up by recent title victory in Indian Wells.
