Teleseminars - Just Because They Are Free Doesn't Mean They Aren't Priced Correctly

March 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 124

The other day, I got an interesting e-mail, it was about a free Teleseminar on a subject that I knew quite a bit about, and one that I am completely intrigued with. It's one of the latest new technologies, and it's all the buzz in the aviation world. In any case I hooked up with a Teleseminar at the prescribed time, and I began listening to what the speaker had to say. It was interesting, no doubt, and since I love the subject, I was happy to be there. But the more I listened, the more I realized why that Teleseminar was free. Okay so, let's talk about this for second shall we

You see, sometimes the reason that these things are free, is because that's all they're worth. In this case it turned out to be a sales pitch where the individual was talking about a case study, something you might read in a white paper on technology which also doubles as a press release and marketing material. So it turns out the reason that this Teleseminar was free, is that they just wanted to gather a bunch of people who might be interested in buying their products.

Did I learned anything at the Teleseminar? No, not really, I learned a little bit more about the idiosyncrasies, specifications, limits, and advantages in their opinion of their products and their so-called great service. But I didn't learn very much that I didn't already know, or we wouldn't have suspected if someone were to ask me what might happen in that given scenario or case study. Basically, except for the specifications of their individual product, I could have given a Teleseminar on the overall technology perhaps as good or better than the person speaking.

In fact, I felt as if I was reading one of those free e-books which are nothing more than a gigantic long sales letter. I felt as if I was being manipulated, and played for a fool, it was truly an insult to my intelligence, and various individuals went on and on asking questions, and I suspect some of the people asking the questions in the Teleseminar where people from their own company asking questions that were pre-planted lead-ins, well, all that seemed rather unfair to me, after being coaxed to listen with misleading marketing about a special "free seminar" on this important topic.

Now then, there is no doubt that these types of events probably do work quite well for these companies, and I'm sure they sell products, and get their name out, and buzz going throughout the industry, and that's obviously why they do them. Still, just because a Teleseminar is free, doesn't mean it isn't worth that price. Indeed, in this case I felt as if they should be paying me for wasting my time and giving me a 30 minute sales pitch. Please consider all this and think on it.
