Feeling Overwhelmed in Life

July 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 136

Feeling overwhelmed is common among many of us. With every step we take in life we try to improve ourselves and the others around us but sometimes things begin to pile up and we end up being overwhelmed losing site of what we are trying to accomplish. Whenever I feel overwhelmed it helps me to understand the "why?" of it all.

So where does those out of control feelings come from? Where does that sensation of being overwhelmed begin. Lets take a quick look at a few questions that might help see things a little more clear.

Do you pack your schedule with many things? Do you live your life true to your values? Does your job or career demand to much of you? Does your career ambition cause you to feel overwhelmed with the rest of your life? Are you getting enough alone time in order to reconnect with yourself? Are you getting enough exercise? Does the junk food in your diet out balance the nutritious food?

When I look over these questions I can see that there typically is an imbalance in the way that I am living. Or my expectations are too high causing me to always miss the mark, which in turn makes me feel overwhelmed. What ever it is, we should have some kind of way to come back to reality and see the significance of it all or at the very least refocus. So here are a few things that we can do.

1 - We can recognize our true value. Our true values give us a sense of where true ground lies. It allows us to see the big picture and helps us understand that even though today is not the best case scenario, we still have value to contribute to each day that is coming.

2- Simply recognize that felling of being overwhelmed. When you realize that you are feeling out of control, it is best to acknowledge it, bring it from the perimeter of your mind and up to the front of you focus. That way you will be able to deal with it instead of letting it grow stronger in the shadows. Now, we are able to realize that we cannot please everyone, it is just impossible. And with that, we can take it a step back and decide to just do our best each day knowing that not everyone will be satisfied but you will be because you gave it your all.

3 - Make your future decisions based off of your values and not the values or opinions of others. This is your life and you need to face yourself at the end of the day. Make decisions that will keep you on track and not contradict what you love. It is OK to say no to others, draw your lines and soon people will understand who you really are and intern they will respect you for that.

4 - Schedule in quiet time to reconnect. I literally mean write it in your agenda or your things to do list. It is way to easy to miss out on alone time because when we are overwhelmed we feel like we are already short on time so how the heck would we remember to sit in the quiet for 10 minutes. It is necessary for us to find time to be in the quiet, to focus on nothing and give our minds a chance to "breathe" so to speak. Our minds are powerful but they too need a break. Get up a few minutes earlier each day and focus on what is important. Do some yoga to connect the mind and the body. Say prayers for others and yourself. Write down everything that you are thankful for and all the people whom you love.

Being overwhelmed is not necessary so it is good to reset and find the cause of it, that way we can gain the control back and live life with a little more peace.
