What is a PQQ Writer?

Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) writing involves creating PQQ responses for clients for need to pass PQQ stages of a tender. A PQQ writer might also be asked to produce PQQ documents by buying companies. But in the context of this article and given that when searched for in the major search engines, the intention behind the search will be companies and organisations looking for an expert to write PQQ responses on their behalf.

The purpose of the PQQ Stage

Tendering activities frequently have PQQ stages incorporated into them. This helps both parties who are involved during tendering activities. The purpose of PQQs is to filter out unsuitable candidates before they actually need to submit lengthy tenders. It is the initial stage in the tendering process. The buyer benefits because they don't have to check lengthy, time consuming tender documents from unsuitable candidates. Prospective contractors benefit because they don't waste time and resources in submitting tender documents for opportunities that they have very little chance of winning.

Taking PQQ Writing to the next level

If you're a novice PQQ Writer and would like to know more about the difference between a good PQQ response and an excellent PQQ response then you should take the time to read the next remainder of this article. You will have been taught that you must be honest, thorough, precise and concise in everything that you write as a tendering professional. This is true but what they don't teach you when you're going through theory is how to have that winning edge in your PQQ responses. Using Pareto's 80/20 rule you can see that 80% of a PQQ response only takes 20% of the total time spent on the PQQ response document but the remaining 20% take will take 80% of the time. This is where a lot of novice to intermediate PQQ Writers come unstuck. It is difficult to get that winning edge.

Whilst writing PQQ response documents simply going through the motions just isn't good enough. You must produce something special. Not as special as if you get the chance to submit a tender document (this would mean passing the PQQ stage) but still something pretty good that will set the scene. You aren't up against competition as such at the PQQ stage because you either pass or fail but if you pass this stage and move on to the tendering stage then you'll actually be directly in competition with other companies or organisations who have also submitted tenders.
