Bid Writers - How You Can Write Better Bids

Prepare yourself

As they say in the scouts and girl guides, be prepared! No-one likes a lazy writer who doesn't do their preparation. You can always tell when a bid document as been poorly prepared, left to the last minute and rushed. No bid document reviewer wants to even consider reading a bid document that has not had one hundred per cent effort applied to it. Lazy writers have no place in the industry. If a job is worth doing then it's worth doing well.

A good bid writer will write winning bids a lot of the time. Some bid documents may still fail but you can be assured that even the ones which fail have been well prepared, well written, thoroughly researched and had every chance of winning. Good bid writers will do everything that it takes to make sure that their client's company is up to scratch, ensuring that it meets the grade and doesn't fall short of the mark. Every good bid writer knows that they can write great bids documents when it matter. Tendering for lucrative opportunities is never easy but it pays off in the end. But there is no point in half doing a job. You must always do a great job to a very high standard. Do not leave anything to chance. Leave no stone unturned and keep at it. You will get there.

Do your research

Don't fall down at this hurdle. Bid writing may be a tough professional but it is always advisable to make sure that you do your research as a bid writer. This includes researching the individual client's company, their industry sector and also keeping up to date with your profession as well. Don't fail to do you research and always plan your bid documents way ahead of time. Leaving bidding until the last minute is a big mistake that only naive bid writers make. Truly professional bid writers do their research and write what they know about to the best of their abilities.

Brush up on your skills

Make it part of your daily or weekly routine to keep up to date with the professional of bid writing. Read about recent news in your industry sector, attend trade events and mingle with other practitioners and academics in your field. Be ambitious, aim to be the best and you will be seen to be the expert bid writer that you truly are.
