You have spent many a hours searching or drawing your perfect tattoo design, you have researched the meanings of this perfect tattoo design, you have found the perfect artist to do the job, the artist done the perfect job and your very happy.

Is this the end of the process?

The simple answer is no, to make your tattoo last a lifetime and stay in its original vibrant state you need some good Tattoo Aftercare Instructions to help guide you through the last parts of the process so you end up with that perfect tattoo in the flesh.

Any good tattoo artist will know that the healing process and on going techniques to minimise any damage to your new piece of living art work are paramount to the success and longevity of your new tattoo.

So now you ask how is this done?

A lot of the tattoo aftercare is common sense and if your asking yourself should I be doing this then chances are you're doing it wrong. It's not hard to keep up your tattoo and by far the first week is the most important in the healing process.

To make sure your new tattoo heals fast and vibrant you need to make sure you are applying a antibacterial cream once or twice a day except for the first day/ night because at this time your tattoo should be wrapped in a protective film to help it sweat out all the nastys that create the scab.

Once removing this cover you want to make sure you give your new tattoo a very good clean off under warm water and always remember to 'pat dry' the area, this is when you will apply your antibacterial cream to your tattoo USE THIS SPARINGLY!! applying to much will make a film over your tattoo and it will not be able to breath- no air= no healing...

You should keep doing this once or twice a day AT LEAST for the first week or the longer you can the better, trying to make sure your new tattoo does not over dry out.

By the end of the first week your tattoo should be peeling, if it has been done correctly it should be flaking off much like a sunburn would and there should not be thick scabbing areas. At this stage it is very important that you do not pick at your new tattoo as any bits you pick off are likely to pull the ink along with it and you will end up with a patchy tattoo.

Other things to keep in mind are

1. NO SWIMMING OR LONG HOT BATHS- this will fade and pull the ink from a un healed tattoo.

2.STAY OUT OF THE SUN- even after your tattoo is healed its ideal to keep it from the sun as the UV rays damage the pigment and will cause your tattoo to fade over time.

If you stick to this guide your new tattoo will stay fresh and truly last you a life time.
