Natural Disasters - How You Can Be Prepared

April 10, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 155

With so many natural disasters in our time what can you do to prepare yourselves, your family, loved ones or even neighbors? In this article my hope is to help you with the basics on where to start, how to start and when to start.

So lets start with the basics in where to start. We should be starting within our own homes! Our home is a place of peace and comfort. If you are not prepared, then in a natural disaster or emergency you will not have that comfort that you should feel when being in your own home. One thing to also think about is where are you most of your day. Are you at work, home or traveling in your car? These are things to consider as to where you should put your priority. Maybe you are at work or traveling on the road more than you might be at home, but do you have a family at home that are there more often than not? Maybe you need to be prepared in multiple places since it may not be just you but your family as well to consider.

How should you start to be prepared? Well its like being a baby, a baby doesn't run before it learns how to take its first steps and walk. Same thing in learning how to be prepared, we must learn what is needed in situations that might possibly happen close to home, work or wherever you might be. We have to take it one step at a time, as being prepared can be a bit overwhelming. Maybe you might be wealthy and protecting your family may not be a problem. You might think that you cannot afford to be prepared and protect yourself or loved ones. Maybe you might only have a little bit each month to spend. On the other hand you could be that person who scrapes each paycheck to pay the bills. In any case there is something that you can do to be better prepared for a natural disaster or an emergency.

Here are some ways in any situation how you might be able to protect your family:

  • If your just scraping to get by each month and have nothing left to spend think about what you might have at home that you can put in a 72 hr kit. Maybe you have an extra backpack, large gallon size ziplock or grocery bag. Then start going around your house and find those extra items that might be laying around the home for example: a toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper, pen, paper, can of food or snacks in the cupboard, etc. These are things that can easily be put into a bag that you can grab and go or use around the home, office or even your car.
  • Maybe you're the type that has a little bit left over each month that you can start with a little more. I would suggest maybe doing the above but also start buying some food storage, water filtration or purification tablets, etc. each month. Maybe it's a few pouches each check or a can or water purification tablets. Start with something and add up to something that makes you feel more secure and comforted should a natural disaster or emergency happen.
  • You could be the one that is a little more well to do and want to just buy something already made up rather than doing it yourself. This is the easiest way to go but is not for everyone. If it is for you then search online for emergency preparedness companies such as Nitro-Pak, The Ready Store, Emergency Essentials and many more that offer a wide selection of food, water, 72 hr kits or other items needed to protect you once a natural disaster strikes. These companies offer packages and kits already made up for you that you don't need to worry about building it yourself and spending the time you might not have.

Well you might ask when should I start and prepare myself or family for a natural disaster. The time is NOW! Don't put it off any longer as tomorrow might be too late. Procrastination can destroy you and your family if you do not prepare both mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. Prepare yourselves and your family by getting prepared TODAY!!
