Replacing Caffeine and Herbs for Improved Energy

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 165

Walk into any household and you'll see tea and coffee on the counters ready to be made. In today's society, the majority of people depend on these sorts of caffeinated drinks or any of those "natural herbal" blends to give them the energy to tackle their long day. Companies have even made energy drinks, such as Red Bull or Monster, which have an even larger amount of caffeine than the traditional soda such as 7up or Pepsi. While many people would like to avoid all these unhealthy caffeinated drinks, the problem is that they don't know any other way. This article will show you 3 simple ways that you can improve your energy levels throughout the day.

Diet

The number one problem with peoples' energy levels always seems to be their diet. They will often resort to having a cup of coffee or a candy bar because they know that they will get a short and quick surge of energy like this. However, what they often don't know, or choose to ignore, is that in about an hour to two hours their blood sugar levels will drop and leave them feeling fatigued and irritable. Instead of resorting to these quick fixes, you can change your diet and include lean proteins, such as chicken breast and tuna, mixed with a host of complex carbohydrates, such as oatmeal or whole wheat bread. This combination of lean proteins and complex carbohydrates will digest at a slower rate than the coffee or candy bar and thus keep your blood glucose level even throughout the day. This balancing and leveling of your body's blood glucose will keep you feeling energized throughout the day.

Exercise

Many people choose to avoid the gym because they feel tired and believe that some time in the gym will only make them feel worse. However, that isn't true, a little time in the gym or a short run can greatly boost ones energy throughout the day. Even something as simple as a 10 - 20 minute walk can greatly boost your energy and help you tackle the stress from those long work days. If you find walking to be boring and don't like going to the gym, you can also do yoga. Yoga stretches are also a great way of keeping your body active and enhancing its overall energy stores.

Nap

Although most of us think that only children need naps, as an adult living a stressful and packed life, we too can take 20 minutes of our day to have a short nap. In fact, if you're feeling tired, a short 20 - 30 minute nap will give you a huge burst of alertness, energy, and even improve your motor skills. If you begin doing this regularly, for 20 - 30 minutes, you will begin to feel the changes in your body and the increase in overall energy.
