Does Creatine Work To Increase Muscle Size And Strength?

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 177

Does creatine work? If it does, how does it work? To answer these questions, we need to look at a few facts about this supplement.

First of all, creatine is found in red meat as well as in fish. However, cooking meat destroys creatine so if you want lots of it in your diet you will probably have to eat a lot of sushi. In addition, creatine is also made in your pancreas and kidneys. Your body is only able to synthesize a small amount of creatine, and for this reason supplements are the best option.

Creatine is composed of 3 amino acids, arginine, methionine and glycine. In our bodies, it will bond with phosphate so that it creates phosphocreatine or creatine phosphate. Our bodies create creatine, but it is also possible for us to increase the amount of creatine that is present in our bodies.

We can do this by eating lots of beef and fish, but the best way to increase creatine in our bodies is through supplements. Now, some regard creatine in the same way as anabolic steroids. This is erroneous because creatine is a natural compound that is found in our body, and not an artificial substance. Ninety five percent of creatine stored in our body is found in our skeletal muscles. This is used by our body to produce energy.

Creatine increases the amount of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP stores the energy to do just about everything we do. It is said to be the "energy currency" of life. To cut a long description short, you need ATP for energy.

At any one time, there is a limited amount of ATP that is stored in our bodies and it is worth about one to two seconds of energy source. Therefore, this means that the body has to continually synthesize creatine and this goes on to explain does creatine work. Different activity levels means that the body will produce ATP and use the energy systems so that the job gets done.

When you work at a low intensity, usually at about sixty percent of your maximum level or less, the aerobic system is the one that will be used. If you exercise at such a level, you are unlikely to benefit from the creatine supplementation. This is because our body has enough oxygen to produce ATP in order to meet energy demands for such an activity.

When you are working at higher intensity level, of between sixty and ninety five percent intensity, the lactate system is the one that will be used for ATP production. This is an anaerobic system, and we have experienced this, and this is when we have reached a certain number of repetitions while exercising, we start to experience a burn.

This is when your lactate system is creating ATP. We all know that if we would like to stimulate muscle growth, we need to train with intensity. Creatine helps increase energy, which means greater intensity in your workouts, which can result in serious muscle growth and strength.

Just be aware that creatine supplements are not created equal. Check out best creatine supplements to find the best supplement to suit your needs. You can get the latest scoop on dietary products at David Kamau's supplements information site and blog.
