Cervical Spine MRI

Common symptoms of high blood pressure are whenever you feel discomfort on your neck or your nape with a mild headache and slight dizziness. However, you consider yourself a fit individual, and ruling out high blood pressure or any cardiac illness symptoms is not improbable. You lift weights and exercise regularly, and eat clean with a balanced diet. You still feel an unbearable pain on your neck, but without the dizziness.

One possible problem that you might be encountering not cardiac related is perhaps a neck pain in your cervical spine, or cervical vertebrae. The cervical spine are the first seven vertebra found directly below the skull, or the top part of your spine. Pain on your neck through your cervical spine can be caused by sleeping on your side or back the wrong way, improper posture, or perhaps losing your balance and fell on the floor on your back in an awkward manner.

You don't need to undergo a full body scan to point out where the problem exists. To determine if your cervical spine is exactly causing your neck pains, or which part of your vertebrae is needed to be fixed to remove the sting, you would need to undergo an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) on that specific part of your neck and back. Getting and MRI on your cervical spine is safe and painless, and uses a magnetic apparatus with radio wave signals to generate an enhanced detailed view of your cervical spine.

Unlike a CT (Computed Tomography) Scan, which uses a full body scan for detailed imaging, MRI's only need to screen a certain portion of your body that needs to be looked at, and does not use radiation, so the fear of acquiring possible cancer cells can be ruled out. MRI's are more practical, time-wise, health-wise, and financially, than full body scans. Just like X-rays, MRI's scan the internal structure of the human body, and can be found in radiology centers and medical facilities. Although MRI's get a more detailed image than X-rays, thanks to complexed calculations by the computer that gathers the data from the MRI machine, resulting in a clear, 3-Dimensional image of the data. Results in MRI examinations can precisely identify the problems caused in your cervical spine.

During cervical spine MRI's, the patient is placed onto a table that is gradually slid into a magnetic tunnel for scanning. For those who are claustrophobic, or couldn't deal with closed quarters, some MRI machines have larger openings to accommodate these types of patients.

Cervical spine MRI's can detect problems in your neck, going as deep as discovering suspicious concerns like soft tissues, nerves, and spinal discs. With an enhanced technology brought about by MRI machines, you can also identify other problems like tumors, swelling, bleeding, or infections in the surrounding tissues of your vertebra.

The next time you feel a chronic pain on your neck, without the same symptoms of high blood pressure or other cardiovascular diseases, consult with your doctor and don't hesitate to get an MRI on your cervical spine.
