Start Thinking You're A Success

April 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 175

Regardless of one's definition of success, or being a success, or being successful, it always must begin with an individual's attitude and thought processes. One of the greatest stumbling blocks that most people face is their inability to truly believe that they will achieve and be successful, and without beginning with a positive, can do attitude, there is rarely much possibility of success. Dr. Joyce Brothers said, "Success is a state of mind. If you want success, start thinking of yourself as a success." Although we have all heard similar statements and advice, most people refuse to remove the negative ideas from their thought processes, and this creates self- doubt. When anyone begins with self- doubt, the journey to success automatically becomes a difficult and often arduous one.

1. In the last more than three decades, I have conducted many hundreds of self- help and attitude adjustment seminars and training programs. I always urge attendees to begin their training by opening their minds to further opportunities and refuse to see problems. I have created a series of taboo terms for those who want to help themselves, that include: problem; I'll try; can't; I'm not sure; it's too hard; etc. For example, instead of seeing a difficult or unwanted situation as a problem, is far better to see it as merely an obstacle or a challenge. When one thinks of a problem, he thinks of something unpleasant, unwanted, difficult, aggravating, and even unachievable. On the other hand, a challenge conjures up in our mind's eye, an image of something that we have the ability to overcome, that might even be fun (because it often brings up a sports analogy), and creates an atmosphere where we enlarge our comfort zones to adjust and create solutions and remedies, that will propel us to victory.

2. One of the most powerful tools or weapons that anyone can use is his own mind and willpower. Success derives from the use of personal and positive affirmations, that have true meaning to the individual. They never say that I can do something or won't do something, or will try to do something. Instead, positive affirmations must be stated in the present, and in a proactive manner, creating a personal image of it already being as one wishes it to be. For example, someone who wishes to improve as a public speaker would not say, "I will be a great speaker," but rather, "When I speak before a group, the audience becomes enraptured and captured by my enthusiasm and presentation, and reacts positively and proactively."

So much in life depends solely on us. Sure, there are outside circumstances, but our success is based on what we do before and after circumstances, rather than what these events do to us!
