Twenty Ways to Relieve Stress

July 23, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 182

Life today is filled with stress. Whether it's at work, driving, or even at home, it's so easily to become stressed. Even grocery shopping can be stressful! Nonetheless, for the sake of not ruining our health, we must learn how to relieve stress.

There's no denying that if we don't get rid of stress, it can turn deadly. Thus, the following ten tips are ways to prevent such doomed consequences from happening.

1. Pray or meditate.

When you're stressed, praying can be a spiritual solution to releasing your mind of the burden beating you down. You're turning your problems over to a higher power; thus, allowing you to move forward with assurance that your problems have a solution on the way.

Meditation is another spiritual solution for stress relief. There are several meditation techniques to choose from. To find the one best for one, visit your favorite search engine and type in "types of meditation techniques."

2. Go to bed on time.

While there may be some times when you have to stay up late, for the most part, you should retire to bed early. Getting plenty of rest is essential in meeting the daily demands of life.

Given that life is one big stress factor these days, you need ample amount of energy to be at your best. What better way to be at your best then by getting the proper amount of sleep?

It's recommended that you get 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

3. Get up on time every day.

While staying in bed an additional 30 minutes or an hour may be tempting, don't do it. Get up on time so you can start you day minus rushing.

If you start the day rushing, you might find yourself rushing throughout the day. This is because you'll spend the whole day trying to catch up on everything you're behind in.

As a result, this creates stress. Avoid the onset of stress by getting up on time - even if you have to pull yourself out of bed. And don't hit the snooze button!

4. Say "no" to anything that doesn't fit into your schedule.

Life is about helping each other. However, there are times when we must say "no" to people in order to help ourselves.

For instance, if your schedule is full, the last thing you need is another project to make it fuller. Thus, you need to decline taking on this project. Failure to say "no" could jeopardize your mental health to the point of being stressed out.

Reminder: you can say "no" in a kind manner. Being rude is not necessary.

5. Assign tasks to others.

Despite being popular in the movies and cartoons, Superman doesn't exist in real life. And there's no such thing as Superwoman either.

Nobody can do it all, and you shouldn't try to be any different. Attempting to try would only lead to a massive amount of stress.

Therefore, in regards to your work, regardless what it is - housecleaning, work related projects, caring for your kids, etc. - get some help.

Let your spouse help you feed the kids or dress them - if they're too young or small to do these tasks themselves. If they're old enough, allow your children to do lighter housecleaning chores. If you run your own business and work is hectic, consider hiring an intern or temporary help.

6. Unclutter your space.

Keep everything neat and organized. Doing so will prevent even the smallest amount of stress.

There are a variety of organizers available for purchase at local and online retailers.

7. Allow yourself tine to travel.

This tip is especially useful if you're traveling to an unfamiliar place. There's a strong possibility that you may get lost while searching for a place in unfamiliar territory.

Allow yourself time to do so by leaving early. This way you won't be rushed and worse, stressed while trying to find your destination. Afford yourself time for trial and error.

8. Take it one day at a time.

Interesting fact: we can't live ten hours ahead of time. We can't even live five minutes ahead! Instead we can only live one minute at a time.

The same goes for our days.

We must take each day as it is given to us - one day at a time. Trying to jump two days ahead can lead to unnecessary stress because of one reason: you don't know what that day will bring; much less what today will bring.

So take it one day at a time - one minute at a time.

9. Live within your budget.

Straining your finances is a surefire way to go broke. It's also a definite way to get stress. Couples have divorced because of financial hardship. Even worse, people have suffered health crisis such as strokes and heart attacks.

Don't let this happen to you!

Keep your finances on a budget. This includes buying only what you can afford and bypassing on what you can't.

10. Keep your mouth shut.

This tip may seem blunt, but it can save you a tremendous amount of trouble. A closed mouth prevents you from saying the wrong thing and facing the consequences of chaos and stress afterwards. So shut your mouth - enough said.

11. Read your bible or other inspirational books.

When the weight of the world wears you down, reading spiritual content such as the bible can be uplifting to one's burdensome soul. Find biblical passages that befit your situations as close as possible. Rely on these passages to know that the stressful situation you're dealing with will pass.

There are also several inspirational books available to ease your stressed soul. Choose from popular inspiring authors such as Max Lucado, Joyce Meyer, and Joel Osteen to name a few.

You should also consider getting your inspiration via the internet. Subscribe to websites that deliver daily positive affirmations to your email box.

12. Get plenty of exercise.

Exercise is a great way to get stress relief. Whether you choose aerobics, yoga, or to work out at a gym, work your body while freeing your mind of your troubles. Even a walk around your neighborhood is a good form of exercise.

13. Eat right.

Just because you're under stress doesn't mean you should eat everything that comes your way. This isn't the way to relieve stress.

No matter what you're enduring, eat properly. Don't make junk food part of your eating regimen. Instead include the proper amount of vegetables and fruits in your diet.

14. Keep a journal.

One of the best ways to relieve stress is to write it out. It doesn't matter if the stress involves anger, sadness, confusion, etc. - write it out.

Express it on pen and paper and feel the toxic emotions melt away.

15. Have some "alone time" every day.

No matter how much you love being around your family, you need some time to yourself. Give yourself some time and space to work out your emotions.

16. Make friends with positive people.

Negative people create a toxic environment. Not one positive word will come out of their mouths.

People with a positive attitude, however, will encourage you to be at your best and handle stress in a positive manner.

17. Laugh.

Next to prayer and meditation, laughter is the best solution to life's stress. So laugh, and laugh often. Just make sure that your laughter isn't out of cruelty towards others.

18. Have a forgiving attitude.

To hold hatred and grudges serves no purpose at all. In fact, it only makes your life less pleasurable. Life is too short and precious to allow your life to be such way.

19. Slow down and enjoy life.

We all have goals that we want to accomplish before we depart from this life. However, speeding to reach those goals without enjoying life is not the way to reach them.

Enjoy your family and friends by having quality time with them.

You will reach your goals in due season. However, you want to make sure that your family is still with you when you reach it. Don't lose your family along the way.

20. End each day by thinking of at least one thing you're grateful for.

We're all blessed in so many ways. And given this, we should take a few minutes at the end of each day to choose what we're most grateful for. Doing so will make us realize that our problems are only temporary situations with a permanent solution on the way.

In short, we'll realize that overall, life is good is so many ways. Therefore, there's no need to be stressed when we're far too blessed.
