What to Look For in a Good Squash Racquet

May 04, 2011 | Comments: 0 | Views: 132

When deciding on a squash racquet, there are many different factors to consider. They have a variety of different features which you should be aware of when deciding on a purchase. No matter your skill level, having the correct racquet is essential to not only improving your style of play, but also complementing your methods. Knowing the characteristics of racquet design will help you make the right choice in finding the perfect racquet for you.

The first characteristic you should look at, is the weight of the squash racquets. Weight difference can be an important factor in choosing your squash racquet, as different weights provide different advantages. A lighter racquet is much easier to handle, and requires much less strain when moving and hitting. A heavy racquet will provide much more power than it's lighter counterpart and increased momentum when swinging helps beginners round out their game with more ease. Another important factor to look for is the balance of the racquet. Balance depends on the weight of the head, which can be heavy, light or neutral. A racquet which is heavy in weight will generally be heavy in balance also. A lighter racquet will be head light, and will generally feel like less power can be achieved while using it. The stiffness of your racquet is a characteristic which dictates accuracy and power. A stiff racquet will increase your accuracy and power, however these characteristics can usually only be utilised to their full extent with increased squash technique and grip.

The shape of a squash racquet is one of the most crucial aspects of the racquet design. A racquet with a larger head surface area will allow a player to take more powerful shots, and increase consistency. This consistency is provided due to the larger head making it easier to hit shots, and therefore reducing the amount of mishits or faulty shots. A further feature to look for when purchasing a squash racquet is the durability. racquets take a beating throughout the game, and having a well-built racquet made from durable materials is going to ensure you don't have to keep replacing your racquet.

By tailoring your equipment to your style of play, you can drastically improve your game. racquets have many different designs and styles to suit all types and levels of players and choosing the right squash racquet for your needs will ensure a better game and increased technique.
