If you've actually been witness to an individual speed reading the sight could possibly be remarkable. They flip the pages of a book at breakneck speed and generally their hand is skimming the length of the pages really rapidly. It's hard to envision that they are absorbing everything that they're studying. After all, a person reading at average speed can occasionally even have difficulty remembering what they just read. Nevertheless, it is achievable to read and retain all of the meaning in a book or magazine even when you are reading it much swifter than a normal person does.

It's apparent that one of the keys to speed reading is the eyes. It's the eyes that are scanning the page, and soaking up the files for the mental. The people that are able to speed read don't have special "bionic" type eyes. Their eyesight is just the same as someone else's.

The first phase to speed reading is found with your eyes. In order to learn proficiently at all, regardless of pace, a person has to be able to determine to the greatest of their talent. This requires having a standard eye examination. Once you have a thumbs-up from the eye physician or a new set of glasses or contact lens, you're all set to discover some of the basics relating to your eyes in relation to speed reading.

It's easier to read under a dim light than a very bright light. Many people were led to feel the reverse and have spent years sitting next to a lamp that is practically blinding them, as they read. The eyes adjust far better to dimmer light and so if you are planning to practice your speed reading methods, invest in a reading lamp which generally features a softer type light bulb, to ensure that it's much easier on the eyes.

For many years it was strongly considered that speed reading was performed by using the peripheral vision. The moment a person refers to peripheral vision, they are referring to the line of sight that you see out of the corner of your eye. The word of advice was that the eyes scanned the sheet and the words that were caught in the peripheral vision were the words that stuck. This doesn't seem to be the situation though, as people who read using peripheral vision would eventually be missing a lot of the text. This would bring about a misunderstanding of the material.

As an alternative it's important whenever you are trying to speed read that your eyes scan the complete terms. The procedures that are proposed for speed reading employ this plan. That way the individual studying isn't lacking total text or phrases as they would be with the peripheral vision process.

Your eyes are fundamental for your benefits in speed reading. Acquiring the best prescription eye wear and employing a dim light will give you the foundation you need to begin the method. By employing your overall area of view, it is possible to instantly and efficiently absorb the material you are reading.
