What's Your Zag?

April 17, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 113

I recently read Andrea Lee's book, Multiple Streams of Coaching Income. What a great book! I honestly think that every coach (especially new and emerging ones) along with anyone who works behind the scenes with coaches (hello virtual assistants) should read this book! It is literally full of strategies and concepts that every coach should implement in order to create (wait for it) multiple streams of income. Are you a coach struggling to maintain a steady stream of 1-on-1 coaching clients? Get the book!

As a virtual assistant, I decided to read the book so that I could learn what strategies I should suggest to my clients and then which ones I should learn how to implement and support. I'm not kidding when I say that I am dedicated to helping my clients grow their businesses. I pride myself on being able to make concrete suggestions on implementing strategies that work and bring in more money. When my client is successful, I am successful.

There are a few strategies in the book that really stood out for me so far (and I'm not even finished the book yet!):

What's Your Zag?

What is it that you are doing that is different from everyone else? What angle or "zag" can you implement so that your marketing strategy really stands out. Think about all of the marketing emails that you receive each day. You quickly skim the subject lines and when you allow yourself 10 minutes to dedicate to reading promotional emails each morning, which ones do you read? The ones that stand out right? The ones that have implemented some sort of zag technique. When everyone is zigging, you should be zagging.

I really liked the example that was shared in the book when a coach by the name of Ramon Williamson sent an email to his subscribers asking them to "Please unsubscribe." He was tired of people not implementing or taking action and so he wanted those people to unsubscribe as he only wanted to continue to communicate with those who were going to take him seriously. Now that's a zag!

Coaching Gyms

Rather than having sporadic coaching appointments with clients, why not dedicate certain hours of particular days each week to open coaching? Clients will pay a monthly fee for the service and then it's up to each of them to call in during the designated time periods. All of a sudden you are freeing up your time which allows you to mentally focus on other projects and initiatives. A strategy that would compliment this is to record each of the calls using software such as Audio Acrobat and then have your calls transcribed. You can then create reports, blog posts, even eBooks covering the topics that have been discussed. All of a sudden you are gaining new content and ideas that are generated from your clients which can then be used to create new streams of income.

Companion Coaching Programs

Do you have a book or a particular program such as a home study course that could be supported by a companion coaching program? Perhaps those reading your book could you use some help implementing what you are teaching and applying your strategies to their own situation? Why not offer a specific follow up coaching session to your readers? How many conferences and events have you attended and left overwhelmed by the amount of information? Would you sign up for a companion coaching program designed to help you implement what you learned? This kind of a strategy can be really effective in helping your target market reach their goals. And when you have happy clients who are impressed by what you have helped them achieve, what happens? Word of mouth referrals, the best kind!

These are just a few of the strategies that are suggested in the book. There are several others worth mentioning as well but I don't want this blog post to turn into a book! Or do I? Ha! Even I learned a few things that I could implement myself and start creating my own multiple streams of income!
