Three Ways Having a Virtual Office Can Improve Your DUI Practice

April 04, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 133

A virtual office is a system where the tenant does not actually rent an office per se, but a space when needed. The tenant is given an address, and a telephone number to include as the location of their office. But they do not have a physical location there. Its kind of like a PO Box. A receptionist will be there to answer the phone, take messages, forward all calls and mail to the attorney. When the attorney needs to meet with a client or opposing counsel they reserve a conference room in the building where their virtual office is set up. Most of these office systems have a different plan including a different amount of hours each month to reserve conference rooms.

For the DUI practitioner who is in court every day all over their state a virtual office is a great thing. In fact in my opinion I think there are three benefits to converting to this system.

Cost: In my jurisdiction the cost to rent a one room office space in a downtown office building is around $1500 - $2000. Factor in parking at $350 a month and that cost will increase. The average cost for a virtual plan with that same downtown address is around $300. That is a difference of almost $2000. Additionally the cost to have a legal receptionist, depending on experience can be around $4000 - $6000 a month. In the virtual office a receptionist is included in the base price depending on the plan.

Convenience: Most DUI Attorneys are in court every day all over the state. That means the more successful they are the less time their in the office. Its just simple math, more clients equals more court time. A virtual business eliminates what some view as the most frustrating part of being a DUI Attorney. Fighting traffic into your office early in the morning, and then leaving to Court in another county, and then coming back to the office for lunch, and then leaving for Court again in the afternoon is a typical day.

Flexibility: Most virtual office companies have different business locations that their tenants have access to. So having the ability to meet clients or opposing counsel in different locations that are more convenient to them add flexibility to your practice. Additionally most of the discovery in a DUI case comes in the form of police reports. This can be uploaded onto a server and it can be accessed digitally from your phone or lap top. There is no need to have a large filing cabinet containing all of these documents.

Obviously this type of office system is not for everybody. But in today's day and age of technology, and the cost of doing business it certainly is something that has benefits.
