How to Choose a Web Designer for Your DUI Law Firms Website

April 05, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 124

When starting a law firm there are many business decisions that need to be made. From creating the corporation, to picking an office space, to getting business cards. The list is endless. One of the most overlooked decisions is the law firms website.

Like all businesses these days it seems like there are tons of so called website designers out there. Knowing what to look for, and having specific questions in mind can mean the difference between a smooth process with a well designed website, and a horrible experience. In my opinion here are the most important qualities to look for in a website designer.

Creative experience: Experience matters in website design. When I was looking at web designers for my DUI law firm, I wanted someone who not only had an extensive background in web design, but a creative one as well. Anyone can go out to Barnes and Noble and buy a book on how create a website. But having someone who has been doing it for years, and it's their actual job means a great deal. In addition to that an experienced web designer will also have seen many different websites, and can direct you on what will not only look aesthetically pleasing, but will function well too.

Price: Unfortunately when I was choosing a company for my website, I first went with the least expensive person I could find. I didn't realize the importance of experience, and I thought if I gave the company an example of a website I liked they would be able to create it. Well you get what you pay for. As it turns out the least expensive company couldn't do what I wanted, it took them weeks to return a phone call or email, and in the end I had to fire them and start over. When it comes to your DUI law firm this is not the area to skimp on.

A good portfolio: When I first started to look I thought it would be best to work with a website company that had designed sites for other law firms. Well the more and more I thought about it, every DUI or criminal law firm website out there looked like junk. There was nothing creative, exciting, or fresh. These sites where just a bunch of pages that had lots of legalese content. This was not what I wanted. I wanted to be different, and I needed a website company that could deliver. I needed someone who had designed for many different companies, and creates many different looking sites.

Obviously there are many factors to consider when deciding on who to hire, but in my opinion these are the most important.
