If you are thinking of going on your FA level 2 coaching course, but are not quite sure if it is for you, then please read on.

Currently the FA has taken on the responsibility of training coaches from a grass roots level. This means that they want people like you to take courses and provide a positive impact on the games future. Just to clarify, you do not need to be in a professional club, or looking to build a future as a coach to take the FA level 2 coaching course, or any other FA course for that matter. If you are simply a parent wanting to improve the coaching at your child's club then you should be definitely consider applying for this course.

Where can you find a course?

Most of the programs run by the FA are hosted by your local county FA. They can also be found at local schools, colleges and other sports locations throughout the country.

Do you need to do level 1 first?

If you have not already done your level 1 course then you can find out more about it on the local county FA websites. However, it is not a requirement for you to have completed level 1, before you apply to go on the FA level 2 coaching course. It really is down to your own personal experience and footballing knowledge. If you are unsure you can always ring the coaches at your county FA office and they will always be happy to help you.

The best advice I could give to you would be to firstly talk to the club you are currently coaching for. This may be the local under 10's, but if the club want you to progress and take their youth teams further, then they should support you.

On the course you will learn how to coach the:

This involves teaching players the basics of football in an unopposed situation, for example you may be coaching a session on long passing or finishing.

Your session will then progress on to a skill practice. This is when the previous technique has pressure applied by adding opposing players.

Finally you will progress the practice into a small sided game of 4v4. The game is usually structured to provide players with plenty of opportunities to practice the theme of the session.

Essentially the FA level 2 coaching course is not just for those people that are looking to become the coaches of the future in professional clubs. It is a great starting point for parents and amateur players alike who want to get involved with their local clubs. Go to your local FA today and find out when your next FA level 2 coaching course is running, you will not be disappointed.
