Local Snowboarding In Utah - Kyle Porter

December 13, 2011 | Comments: 0 | Views: 122

One of the features on The Last Trick is a weekly post on local snowboarders in Utah. This week's is with Kyle Porter.

A few years ago I got the pleasure of snowboarding and hanging out with Kyle Porter. I met him through Uri Ruvalcaba, and hit a few handrails, played a few poker games, and rode up at Brighton with him.

Although he is not from here originally, and does not live here currently, he lived in Utah for a few years, and comes back once in a while, and according to him is coming back this winter as well. I thought it would be pretty cool to get some perspective from someone who is not originally from Utah, but lived here long enough to know what it's all about. Here is a little bit of what he had to say.

Q: How old are you? A: just turned 21 a couple days ago.

Q: Where are you from? A: Sacramento, C.A.

Q: Did you like your extended stay here in Utah? A: Yeah definitely, amazing snow and mountains, super good food, and i was able to miss school there way more often than California.

Q: What was your favorite part about Utah? A: How much snow there was and how easily accessible it was, the mountains were close and rails were everywhere.

Q: What was your least favorite part about Utah? A: The culture, it was a drastic change from what i grew up with and it was hard to get used to. The people make you feel real uncomfortable if you don't follow the same things they do. I luckily found a cool group of guys to hang out with and just snowboarded most the time.

Q: Do you skate? A: Not much on regular decks but I've been riding small little cruiser boards a lot, we always find good trails and hills with banks and stuff.

Q: Favorite Utah Resort? A: Definitely Brighton, that place is amazing on a good pow day.

Q: Favorite overall resort? A: Sierra at Tahoe, probably cause I've ridden it the most but the pow days are amazing and it has a super good park for when it hasn't snowed for a while.

Q: Favorite snowboard movie of all time? A: Hard to choose one again, I'll say 91 words for snow and afterlame.

Q: Best movie of 2011? A: I still haven't had the chance to see all of them yet, but the art of flight turned out really good.

Q: Favorite Trick? A: a good method or nosepress.

Q: Favorite Snowboarder? A: It's hard to just name one, Nicolas Muller, Corey smith, Jed Anderson, there's a lot of really good new guys too.

Q: Do you still play poker? A: Haha I probably get a game a year in.

Q: Talk about eleven:eleven a little bit. A: I wanted to try and make a banana board in my garage so i tried making a press to get the right shape. the boards started turning out pretty good so my buddy kris and i had the idea to start up a banana board company, which started leading to a bunch of other little creation ideas. its basically just an excuse to make whatever sounds fun at the moment.

Q: Famous last words?? A: don't take life too serious, just do what makes you happy.
