April 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 180

Psoriasis is a peculiar skin condition which is characterized by thick red patches of skin covered by flaky silvery scales. Most people think that psoriasis is a rare disease, but the truth is, it is not. According to research, approximately 120 to 180 million people all over the world suffer from this skin condition. It is a prevalent disease which affects both sexes of any age and all races. Even celebrities are not spared from this condition. Big stars such as Kim Kardashian and LeAnn Rimes have always been very vocal about their battle against this autoimmune skin disease.

If you're suffering from psoriasis, I'm sure you already know how frustrating and challenging it can be to cope with the condition. Although there is no permanent cure for it yet, there are ways to manage its symptoms and make your day to day life more comfortable. With the right attitude and most importantly a conscientious effort, you can keep the symptoms under control and prevent your skin from flaring up. With this, let me share to you some things that you can do to help you manage your skin condition.

1. Do wear sunscreen especially when you're staying out under the sun for a long time. The sun is actually beneficial for patients with psoriasis as it helps the skin to heal and reduce inflammation. However, it is important to prevent sunburn as it can make your plaques more itchy and uncomfortable. Always wear sunscreen to prevent your skin from burning. It's OK to soak up some sunshine, but just don't overdo it.

2. Do keep your skin hydrated at all times. Psoriasis often occurs in dry skin conditions which is why it is very important to keep your skin well hydrated and moisturized all the time. You can use light lotions or better yet, use natural oils such as olive oil and coconut oil.

3. Don't use bar soaps when taking a bath. Bar soaps tend to dry out the skin which can make your lesions very itchy. Use a moisturizing body wash instead.

4. Don't overexfoliate. Exfoliation is highly recommended for psoriasis patients as it helps remove dead skin cells. However, it is very important to do it in a gentle manner and limit it to at least once a week to avoid drying your skin. Extreme rubbing and scrubbing can make your lesions bleed.

5. Do connect with other people. Having psoriasis is not just physically debilitating, it can be emotionally difficult as well. Sharing your feelings with other people with psoriasis can help you feel much better about yourself knowing that you're not alone in this ordeal.

In search of a good psoriasis treatment that can effectively clear unsightly psoriatic skin plaques quickly? XTRAC Therapy is an FDA approved psoriasis therapy which uses light therapy for the effective and safe treatment of many skin disorders such as psoriasis.
