La Tania - An Ideal Ski Holiday Destination

May 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 174

Perhaps you're sitting at home looking for a good skiing holiday and chalet. La Tania in the French Alps might be staring at you in the face out of a brochure or the Internet - so why should you consider it?

The first thing to be decided is whether or not the Alps are for you. After all, other skiing destinations around the world are opening up and some may seemingly benefit from being a little less familiar sounding. Yet the inescapable fact remains that, for many, the Alps remain the closest and most easily reached area for more-or-less assured quality skiing. Yes, skiing is possible in Scotland and parts of the Pyrenees, but for certainty of snow and well-developed facilities, the Alps are reassuring.

This isn't just a question of snow. If you only have time for a few days skiing, flying to other continents and possibly having painfully slow connections means that you might well be exhausted before you even get to your resort. No sooner will you have fully recovered, than it'll be time to be setting off on the equally arduous journey home! By contrast, connections to the Alps are so good that before you know it you'll be comfortably ensconced into your chalet. La Tania offers particularly good connections in that respect, being easily accessible by air from Chambery or Geneva plus having excellent TGV links to Moutiers from Paris and beyond. Even a road journey isn't too intimidating, given the excellent motorway connections from the channel ports.

Of course, simply saying that a ski resort is worth visiting because it's convenient to get to might be a case of damning via faint praise - but La Tania doesn't come into that category as it has a lot more going for it than just geographical convenience. Firstly, it's part of the Three Valleys network, having originally been designed and built in the 1990s for the Olympics. That means its skiing facilities are excellent and second to none. Secondly, this is a human resort. It is discerning without being pretentious and that makes it appealing to many skiers who perhaps prefer substance to posing. Thirdly, it offers a great selection of accommodation. For choice of chalet, La Tania might be hard to beat in many other locations.

Finally, it is French. Nobody doubts the excellent attributes that many other resorts around the world may be able to offer, but in France things are done with a certain panache and that can make all the difference when you're trying to get the most out of a skiing holiday. So, perhaps it might be worth looking just that little bit longer at the image in front of you of that ski chalet. La Tania is, indeed, a great destination and worthy of serious consideration.
