A Whistle Stop Guide to La Tania

April 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 153

A wonderful family-friendly resort, architecturally designed and engineered to cosily fit within the picturesque woods that it is set in, it's the ski lodges that offer the most charming options for accommodations and activities, including your choice of a stone and wood chalet. La Tania is a community resort that is small enough to be warm and ambient, even in the midst of winter, and where you have a better chance of getting to know everyone else - both locals and visitors. If it's your first time to visit, here are a few things you may wish to know.

Where did the Resort Get Its Name?

The former name was La Tagna, which means 'bear's hideout.' The spelling was changed to help visitors properly pronounce the name. But don't worry- despite the wooded areas that surround the site of the main accommodations, you don't need to worry about bears accosting you in your chalet. La Tania is safe, friendly, and bear-free!

Can I Walk Around?

Not only can you walk around, it is highly encouraged you get out on foot to explore. A car-free resort where almost everything is accessible by foot, you can find practically everything within a short walk from your ski chalet. La Tania's small town centre offers many things you may want- from ski booteries, bakeries with fresh bread, a post office, a tabac, a small supermarket and your choice of bars and restaurants with great food and entertainment.

While it does not offer the same kind of busy, bustling nightlife found in other more cosmopolitan ski resorts, you'll still find fun apr├Ęs-ski entertainment in the area to amuse you before retiring to your chalet. La Tania's bars and restaurants offer live music, a great crowd, and even a rousing game of darts or billiards might be on the agenda once in a while!

Where's The ATM?

There's no need to worry about running out of cash and thus having to stay cooped up in your chalet. La Tania has all banking mod cons, including an ATM - it's right at the corner next to the Post Office. Aside from that, there is a Currency Exchange inside the Post Office itself as well. And if that's not easy enough for you, most bars, restaurants and shops take credit cards here so you won't get caught short. (Surrounding resorts such as Courchevel 1850, Meribel and Mottaret have cash machines too.)

Speaking Of Other Resorts, How Do I Get Out?

If you're wanting to get out and explore a little further afield, head on to the main road from your chalet- La Tania's free ski bus will pass by every hour to take you out to Le Praz, Courchevel 1850. There is also a service to Meribel that runs about four times a day- check with the Tourism Office for timetables. There are also taxis and lifts that are quite easy to come by.

How's The Skiing?

The skiing here is nothing short of great, of course! It has runs suitable for beginners, pros and everyone in between.
