The New Commute - Skateboarding

March 29, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 166

Are you trying to go green, but are not sure where to start? Have you started walking everywhere in an attempt to minimize your carbon footprint? If so you should consider skateboarding for your new means of commuting. The following will illustrate why this is such a great new idea.

For starters, commuting by skateboarding is simply fun! There is an exhilaration that comes from skating down a hill that is crowded with other individuals. Walking cannot give you this same type of rush.

Great Way to Green Up Your Lifestyle

Using a skateboard as your means of getting to places is a very green alternative especially when compared to other choices of transportation such as driving. For instance, you don't need to fill it up with gasoline and you do not need to plug it in and charge its batteries. This makes skateboards carbon neutral. Also, there is no excessive noise pollution that can be garnered from other modes of transportation.

Relatively Simple to Learn

Once you have learned the basics of skateboarding, transportation by skateboard is relatively simple. It can take as much as a few months to become truly proficient, but you will find that commuting by skateboard is definitely worth it. Many people think that skateboarding is only about doing tricks and jumps and the like; however, this is a great mode of transportation that doesn't have to be fancy. For instance, if you get tired, you can simply coast. This works great in hilly locations. You will find that the better you get at skateboarding, the more daring you will become, so why not try shredding down a hill at top speed. There is no other rush quite like it.

For those of you that aren't faint of heart, another option you can try, although it is somewhat dangerous, is skitching. This is a play on words; a combination of skateboarding and hitching. What you do is you hold onto the back of some other moving vehicle, such as a bus or a car. This helps you make it to your destination that much quicker. It is warranted to say though that this is only recommended for the most experienced of skaters. This is a very exciting way to have fun on your skateboard but it has been known to be deadly. Only try skitching if you are a truly experienced skater.

Skateboarding, though it has been around for generations, is just lately becoming a new trend for commuting from place to place. If you have a desire to reduce your carbon footprint on the planet, this is a great way to start.
