The FreeRider Skatecycle: The Future of Skateboarding?

February 14, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 181

Skateboarding has been part of the American culture for a very long time. Throughout the years, a lot of people - old or young - have been hooked into this sport. Several skateboard parks have been developed so that these enthusiasts can have a place to practice their art. This is not the only advancement in the world of skateboarding, as several alternatives to skateboarding have been introduced as well. These include the Ripstiks or Caster boards. Today, a new variant of skateboards is making its way to the skateboarding scene. Brooklyn Workshop's FreeRider SkateCycle has caused buzz in the United States. Here is a guide that will help you decide if the SkateCycle is for keeps or not.

Before heading to the review, you will first need a background of the SkateCycle. As said before, this product is being manufactured by Brooklyn Workshop, and is a recipient of the Bronze 2010 IDEA Award. It weighs 7.3 lbs, and has dimensions of 32 x 6.5 x 8.5 inches. It has a hubless wheel, meaning that there are no center hubs present. It is also self-propelled and can be used in flat grounds and skate parks.

Now that you have an idea of the SkateCycle's background and specifications, it is now time if the SkateCycle is worth your time and money. First off are the pros in this product. Owners of this product remarked that the SkateCycle has a very solid body, meaning that it will not break even when used repeatedly. It is also very pleasing to the eyes, because it is made from metal. The only part that is made from plastic is its outer casing. Many skateboard enthusiasts have found this product very enjoyable because of its learning curve probably due to its different mechanics.

Of course, there are some complaints made by the ones who bought the SkateCycle. The learning curve has brought problems to those who have been used to riding skateboards or ripstiks. They found that it takes a lot of hours just to be able to ride the SkateCycle, and even days to weeks to master it. There have been also remarks made on the weight of the SkateCycle. Some say that it could have been improved by using carbon instead of metal. There were also suggestions to include a shock absorber on the device. Others also said that the wheels are too small, making navigation somewhat difficult.

If you are going to ride the SkateCycle, be sure that you are wearing the right protective gears and equipment. There have been some cases of accidents with the SkateCycle, and you do not want to be another casualty. The FreeRider SkateCycle packs a price tag of $150, definitely more than its alternatives. Is it worth your money? It depends. If you want to have a new experience with skateboarding, then this product is for you. But, if you do not enjoy investing several hours trying to learn how to ride this device, then you are better off with a conventional skateboard.
