The availability of skate parks in the world has dramatically increased over recent years with the influx of major brands and sponsorship deals. This money has been reinvested into a lot of local parks and riders to produce the modern skate parks that we see today. Many of these skate parks are now the culture hub of the society and attract visitors, sponsors and riders from around the world. These local parks have produced some of the brightest talent over recent years and this has encouraged new skaters in these areas.

Local fashion trends and ideas have also been influenced by the skate scene in various locations; if you walk down the street in any major city you will see a pair of skate shoes. Many brands now include a skate range as the culture has transcended many areas. These areas are used to host many events in the skating world and bring in huge crowds. This exposure helps with the investment into the skate industry that helps build new parks for future generations.

The park we take a look at in this article is the Santa Monica Skate Park. Located in Memorial Park on Olympic Boulevard this 20,000 square foot area has a large amount of vertical, street and tranny areas for skaters of all levels. The skate park was opened in 2005 and is owned by the public so it is continually monitored and kept in the best possible condition. Many of the skaters that come to the park are there on a daily basis but visitors come from around the world to sample the unique atmosphere.

The Santa Monica Skate Park offers a range of features that makes it one of the best skate parks, these include a range of pools varying in-depth and height, vertical walls and straights that are perfect for getting some air and practicing tricks. There is also a street section full of obstacles and rails that are very popular with the local skaters.

There are a few requirements to skate at Santa Monica; helmet, knee pads and elbow pads are required on the skate park. There is a small registration fee; for all youths one-time registration fee of $10 with a $3 day pass; for adults one-time registration fee of $15 with a $5 day pass; and non-resident adults one-time registration fee of $16.50 with a $5.50 day pass. These fees pay for the up-keep of the park and make sure it is in great condition to enjoy quality skateboarding.
