Follow Certain Rules While Skateboarding

January 30, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 155

Over past few decades, skateboarding has grown into a sport that is loved and adored by people from all parts of the world. Along with the fun and the speed that skateboarding offers, it also comes bundled with a high risk of falls and injuries. Sometimes this risk can be mighty enough to leave you bleeding, fractured, wounded, paralyzed or even worse. This is why, it becomes really crucial to understand and obey all the simple yet powerful rules of skateboarding.

These rules are not documented or formulated by any central governing body and are derived from the past experiences of skateboarder. However, the rules are quite useful in keeping you safe and sound. Let us discuss few simple rules you should obey while skateboarding.

Always Wear Protective Skateboarding gear

One of the most important rules that ensure your safety is to wear skateboarding gears that can protect your body from injuries. Whereas this is a mandatory rule in some of the states, it needs to be followed even if there is no such rule. Several kinds of skateboarding gears are available in various shapes, sizes and varieties depending upon the protection needs of a specific organ or body part. For example, skateboarding helmets should be chosen to protect your head while skateboarding gloves and wrist guards are a must-have gear for protection of your hands. You should always ensure that the skateboarding gear you choose is of a reputed brand and complies with the safety standards required for skateboarding.

Respect and Follow the Traffic Rules

A skateboarder must obey the traffic rules while participating in skateboarding. For example, you should always skate in a designated skateboarding park instead of any open area that might look suitable to you. You should also not skateboard in the busy streets or open roads since it may increase the chances of serious accidents. Even if you are skating on roads, ensure that you do not violate any traffic rules and run along with the traffic and follow the signs that signal you to go, wait, or stop.

Understand the local laws

Although the basic rules for skateboarding are usually common across countries and states, there might be variations in the local laws applicable to where you are skateboarding. For example, there may be age limits for people who want to skateboard or there may be certain public buildings and areas where they do not allow people to skate. You can face prosecution if you are not aware or careful enough to follow such rules and you may put yourself in serious trouble.
