Tips on Getting High Converting Traffic to an Income Generating Website

A lot of people new to the online income niche believe that bringing a huge volume of traffic to a website virtually guarantees that it will make money. So they often end up paying for ads to be blasted out to thousands using various mass submission tools. This is a bad strategy. Apart from the fact that many such tools don't get anywhere near the kind of visitor numbers they say they do, the traffic that they do attract is generally poor quality.

Like with so many things in life quality -- not quantity -- is the thing to aim for here. And surely the best quality traffic still comes from Google. People do really trust this search engine in particular, and others to a lesser but still significant degree. They figure that you know what you're on about if your site appears on page one for what they're searching for. And if they trust you, they are more likely to buy from you.

It doesn't matter if you're not ranking for juicy one and two word phrases since multi-word "long tail" keywords can still do very nicely. These are generally not extremely difficult to rank for and often convert pretty well since they are very specific.

It also helps if you can attract searchers who are more likely to be in a buying mood. They tend to type in phrases that include adjectives like "best," "finest," "cheapest," "bargain," "quality," and "recommended."

That's why you should include such keywords in your pages where appropriate as well as using them in your anchor text when building links to them. As you slowly start to get onto page one for such long tail keyword searches, you should see a marked improvement in your conversions.

This can be easier said than done -- particularly if you are in an extremely competitive niche where people have been competing over many keywords for years. That said, it's certainly not an impossible task and you only need a few of them to start bearing fruit and it will help a lot.

Social media should be remembered as well. Twitter in particular is great for getting highly targeted clicks to a website. The key is in tweeting in a specific and informative way and interacting often with other tweeps in your niche. Do this and you will inevitably build a solid following of people who share your interests.

Not only does Twitter have high click-through rates, but Google takes into account the links that you -- and in particular other tweeps -- build to your website from it. A lot of them is sure to help your search engine rankings to some degree.

There's another aspect of targeting that can improve conversions. That's the geographic aspect. Logic dictates that if you make your off-page and on-page SEO quite geo-specific, you will slowly draw a much higher proportion of website visitors from your country. If you offer products and services that are also tailored to that nation your proportion of sales will inevitably improve.

And you don't have to restrict your marketing to online techniques to get this effect. Offline marketing using methods such as flyers, posters, newspaper ads and business cards is always geo-specific for obvious reasons.

As well as drawing good quality and highly localized traffic, offline promotion can also help a little with SEO. This is because Google is recording the geographic location of all these visitors, as well as their behavior on your site. The search engine uses this information in its calculation of the site's value when searchers type in keywords related to its content.

If you apply the approaches listed above when promoting your website, you will slowly but surely improve the quality of the traffic that you are drawing to it. With proportionally more targeted visitors reading your pages, more of them will result in sales and your online income is sure to improve.
