What Can I Learn From Snookie? Say What?

February 22, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 163

It is crazy to think that reality TV can be full of life's lessons, right?

Here are 5 LOVE TIPS you can learn from Reality Television:

Snookie and the cast of the Jersey Shore put themselves fully out there for the world to see without apology. Whether it is in a book, an interview, or on the show, Snookie and her cast mates give us all permission to be who we are and be free from what others want us to be. Although I don't necessarily agree with what the show promotes, I do agree with the freedom of choice and the freedom of self-expression. You can choose what and who you want to be and how you want to show up in the world. You can choose what you want to include in your life and in who you are being. You can choose what you want to take on when it comes to what your parents taught you, what society gave you, along with your friends as well as people who do not like you... just because they influenced you, it does not mean you have to continue to take it on as your truth... instead choose whether or not this thing serves you or not in a positive way. If it does not allow you the freedom to be who you are, then dump it!

The Bachelor and Bachelorette clearly demonstrate a process by which the Love Seeker begins with many candidates in the beginning of the show season. They then screen every candidate through a fairly rigorous and emotional process to narrow down their selection over time until they can select one, the one most suited for them in a love and marriage relationship. Now, the drama and craziness on the show is for television ratings - and for entertainment. You don't have to create that kind of emotional turmoil or drama in your dating life; nor do you have to have the extravagant dating destinations to create your own Dating Process of Elimination.

The show also does not guarantee that the relationship will be forever, it shows us that the Love Seeker may make choices that just don't work out in the long run, just like our lives. However, they learn from their experience and if they follow that Dating Process and Selection Method again, I feel certain they will make different choices because of how much they learned about themselves the first round.

We don't have to look farther than the Housewives series to see that friendships between women can be contentious. When one housewife speaks about how they see things or see another housewife, it creates a huge dramatic show. No one likes someone to talk badly about them... The lesson here is to choose your friendships wisely and categorize them. "What Dr. Dar? Categorize my friends? You are crazy." OK, perhaps I am... but here's the deal. We all are attracted to drama... television would not be so successful if that was not the case. Have some friends who you can be dramatic and gossipy with, have some friends who have your back and never gossip about you and you don't about them, and have your going out to have fun friends, and some friends you can count on who get you. You see, you most likely already categorize your friendships... most of us have less than a handful of close, diehard, completely connected, trusting and trustworthy friendships at a time.

When couples participate in The Amazing Race, you can see the healthy relationships from the tenuous ones almost immediately! The couples who know each other very well, who love each other unconditionally, who understand their weak points while allowing their partner to fill in for mutual success... are the one's who have a good time and enjoy the ride!

Competing with your partner, when you are not playing a card or board game, is detrimental to the health of your relationship. Supporting each other at all times and promoting each other's strengths promotes love energy and your relationship! Go for it! Replace Competition with Collaboration!

Yeah, I had to include this reality show - WIFE SWAP! How many times have you looked at another couple and wished you had what they have? Come on, admit it. You have had this thought at least once in your lifetime. Here is a common thought - scene, at your friend's see couples on the dance floor... you wish your boyfriend/husband would dance like Gary does with Genevieve! Busted, you have had the thought at least once. It is okay to have these thoughts! Rule: Don't share them with your partner, keep them to yourself.

Comparing does not create a positive outcome for you and pushes your partner away. No one likes to be compared to others. Oh, back to my point - you don't know anything about Gary and Genevieve's relationship other than what you observe at the wedding... so don't wish you had a different boy/girlfriend, husband, or wife. Instead, find ways to love the one you are with... and if there is no way your current relationship is going to work out, and you have taken every step to resolve your issues to no avail... then have the courage to end it!
