Attaining an Attitude of Gratitude

February 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 93

Every Monday through Friday morning I particpate in a "Think and Grow Rich" mastermind call with other people all across the country. The foundation of the call is based upon the book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. Currently we are reading and discussing the book "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles. The purpose of these books and these calls is to change our mindset with a positive mental attitude and unleashing the power of the mind.

Today's call was focused on gratitude. I've always known the importance of being grateful and believe in a higher power and everything I have, including my life, belongs to Him. I have developed a couple of new personal philosophies recently that I directly attribute to my personal happiness and success. These philosophies are: the more you thank, the more you make and the more you give, the more you receive.

There's something incredible about giving, regardless if it's giving thanks or giving your time in service or giving to charity. Infinite Intelligence rewards you beyond measure for giving credit where credit it due. There's a running joke I have with my wife whenever we are struggling financially and don't know how we're going to make it, we always ask ourselves and each other, "who is in need? Or who can we give some money to? Or who can we serve?"Because we know that if we sacrifice something we have to give something else we will receive more in return. It's a universal law I can't describe, but works 99% of the time. The other 1% is there to try us to keep the faith.

I found this great website that has great article on gratitude.

"New research shows that practicing gratitude may be the fastest single pathway to happiness, health, long life, and prosperity...People who take the time to notice and appreciate the good things that come their way through grace, or luck, or the goodness of others are happier and more peaceful. They do better on cognitive tests and tests of problem solving skills. The practice healthier habits, have better relationships, are more optimistic and live longer. Gratitude is one powerful emotion."

That alone should give anyone motivation to develop an attitude of gratitude and work more on being thankful. Here are three methods in developing and increasing gratitude:

Keep a Record - Each day write down in a notebook or journal about the good things that happened in your life that day. This will allows you to ponder and remember the positive events of the day. Show Appreciation to Others. Take a few minutes and write a letter, email, or text message to express your gratitude to people who have helped you, particularly those who have helped you without special reward. An even more powerful way is to express that appreciation in person. Putting it down on paper helps get your thoughts in order and deliver your message more effectively. Make a Gratitude List. Make a running list of everything of which you are grateful. Start with a goal of listing 100 things and keep adding to your list until you reach that number. These things can be little or big things that many take for granted. You will soon find that your grateful list will be in the hundreds if not thousands.

Personal story...making a gratitude list is what led me to marry the love of my life! When I turned 26 years old, I was feeling down and discouraged, and she took me out for ice cream to cheer me up. She made me write down on a napkin 26 things I was grateful for...something changed in me that night and from that time on I wanted to do everything in my power to be with her. Just over a year later we were married. I thank God every day for her in my life and am so grateful for her role in helping me to have an attitude of gratitude. Being more grateful in your life will lead to an increase in happiness, freedom, and success!
