Who Has the World's Best Innovator - Today It's the US, Tomorrow Maybe Not?

December 20, 2011 | Comments: 0 | Views: 128

Every advanced civilization likes to believe that they have the world's best innovators, inventors, and thinkers. And it's nice to see so many people with so much pride in their respective nations. The reality is however, the United States of America is the most innovative nation in the entire world. Yes, it helps that we have 300 million people to choose from, that's a good start, but it's more than that. It's a way of thinking, a way of life, and in fact it is; the American way.

Still, let's not get too cocky, because we are not alone on this pale blue dot alone, there are other nations which would love to have that title, and status. In fact, I would suggest to you that there are a number of Asian nations that rather fancy themselves as the best innovators, inventors, and originators of new concepts. Currently, we see a lot of copying of American technologies throughout the globe, especially in that part of the world. However, soon we will see these nations giving us a real run for our money, both literally and figuratively.

There was an interesting article not long ago on the Venture Capitalist website; "Venture Beat" posted on December 5, 2011 titled; " Can Asia out-innovate America?" by Rebecca Fannin. She stated:

"Go East, young entrepreneur! The chance to become rich and famous with a startup is no longer just an American dream. It's happening in Asia too, as talent, energy and resources flow from the U.S. to the east. Venture capital investment in Asia has nearly tripled in the past five years to $15.6 billion. China has leaped ahead to become the world's second-largest venture market at $7.6 billion investments, while India has climbed to third place at $5.8 billion."

Wow, that's impressive, of course innovation mindset is not just about money, however a society definitely gets more of what it rewards, and if they have the cash to reward those who are great innovators and if they have 1.3 Billion people, then obviously they would have the advantage even if the US citizenry can out innovate them 4:1 which is my point here, and perhaps the point of that famous YouTube Video "Did You Know 2.0" which you should watch if you doubt what I am saying here.

Does that mean the US will give up her innovation throne? Well, it certainly would if we "play victim" or dive into mental defeatism in my view and observation. By the way my opinion is not really an opinion at all, it comes from 37 years of experience as an innovator of sorts and as the Founder of a Think Tank more recently. With that said, I would submit to you, that it is time for America to get off her rear end, and for her citizens to take the challenge seriously, there are competitors knocking on our door, and it's time to walk the talk, it's time for America to innovate. Please consider all this and think on it.

Lance Winslow has launched a new provocative series of eBooks on Innovation in America. Lance Winslow is a retired Founder of a Nationwide Franchise Chain, and now runs the Online Think Tank; http://www.worldthinktank.net
