The Power of Hypnosis

The power of hypnosis goes way back for years and there are many people who swear by its healing and helping power. It has been an issue of debate for over 200 years and although it is easy to see when someone is hypnotized, no one is sure how exactly it happens.

Since it is highly unlikely that scientists will ever understand the human mind, they also will probably never completely understand hypnosis. Hypnosis is an extreme state that is characterized by relaxation, suggestions and heightened imagination.

Even though it looks like the subject is asleep, they really are awake the whole time. Many times it has been compared to daydreaming. It is similar to when you "lose yourself" in a movie or a book. You basically are focused on the person in front of you doing the hypnosis and nothing else surrounding you.

Even everyday occurrences like watching movies or an amusement park ride can put you into a kind of hypnosis until you are jolted back into reality. When a professional hypnotizes you, you are open to the power of suggestion as if it were a reality. In a way it is kind of like playing "pretend" as a child does when you are under the suggestive powers of hypnosis.

Hypnosis can be very helpful in many arenas of psychological distress. Psychiatrists feel that deep relaxation and being hypnotized help to calm the conscious mind in many ways. That is one reason why hypnosis is so helpful with anxiety and stress symptoms. Hypnosis allows the physician direct contact into your subconscious mind.

Hypnosis finds its best utilization in the treatment of anxiety and stress. Anxiety can be a very serious pathway into other conditions mentally and physically. At times the hypnotist uses something called direct suggestions to get the patient to change anxiety behaviors to alleviate symptoms. It involves a light to medium type trance where suggestions are made to try and work through and subdue the anxiety and nervous symptoms that accompany anxiety and stress. It can be quite effective if the patient is responsive to the hypnotherapist.

If you go to a licensed hypnotherapist you can expect to get treatment that is very successful in many psychiatric patients. You have to be willing to submit and try to let the therapist do the work.
